This topic is open for all suggestions. It's always occurred to me that the concept of witchcraft in modern tv would be great...with the special effects that could be used. There are alot of possible storylines with a more mature look into how Darrin and Samantha meet, their families, the Kravitz's would have to be played a little differently in a drama series, and how they get out of predicaments could be more adventurous.....this show does not have to be a comedy.
I guess what I'm asking is who in today's climate would you like to see play the rolls of the characters....remember this is for a more in depth look, a drama. |

Or what if the producers of Charmed had done a spin-off, with one of
the Halliwell sisters marrying a mortal? |

It's an interesting idea, but I just can't picture Bewitched as a drama. To me, it would never be anything to me but whimsical, romantic comedy. Endora's spells, Uncle Arthur's pranks, Larry's meddling, Gladys' hysterics and Abner's indifference would just seem mean-spirited in a drama. But then again, your mileage may vary.

...of course, there'd have to be more "darker", supernatural moments-
ENDORA: (poring over a book of spells and incantations) "Let's see...I think Darwood should have his 'accident' at....12:57pm...eastern time....tomorrow afternoon. Then, Samantha will be so heartbroken over his death, she'll have no choice but to find herself in mother's understanding arms.....*vicious laugh*". And then, of course, there'd be the inevitable climax at the end of the first season, where Sam and Endora, powerless, are both tied to adjoining stakes, about to be burned alive... SAMANTHA: "Mother!!! HELP ME!!!!" ENDORA: "How can I help you when I'm about to be consumed like a toasted marshmallow? I warned you to give up that mortal husband of yours, but no, (imitating Sam's voice) 'I LOVE HIM'....well, the Witches' Council doesn't love him....and now we're going to be overcooked frankfurters, no thanks to you!" SAMANTHA: "How can they DO this to us?" ENDORA: "That's easy...they think like me." SAMANTHA: "YOU TOLD THEM!!!" ENDORA: "I did no such thing!!! If I wanted to burn Deckwood-" SAMANTHA: "For the last time, Mother, his name is DARRIN!" ENDORA: (ironically) "After the fire dies, who'll be around to correct me?" Of course, Sam gives an impassioned speech about how hypocritical the Witches' Council are in burning them when innocent people were burned in Salem, centuries ago...and she regains her powers solely through her love for Darrin...of course, that puts her at even more odds with the Council, who sends a warlock to Morning Glory Circle to try to destroy Sam's marriage- but that's a plot thread for "season two".....

This is the first thing that came to my mind when I read this thread title.

I think I need to rephrase the fact that comedy should be left out, as there is comedy in all genre's of television....hell there's even comedy in sports events. The original question is who do you think could play these rolls.
After watching the recent Bewitched movie, my own personal opinion is it was done all wrong....without using the Darrin and Samantha characters really kinda made it a seperate story and why the casting dep. had gone through all the trouble of finding someone who looked as close to Elizabeth Montgomery and not play the roll of Samantha is beyond me.(Nicole Kidman I thought fit the part just right...in fact Will Farrel I thought was the only actor not right, he did not seem Darrin like). My pick on who could play the part of Larry Tate would be Burt Reynolds, I don't know if he would ever do a tv drama but he would be perfect. So again who would be your picks for the other characters?......remember: tv drama. |
