Exclamation Jeff Goldblum Exits 'Law & Order'

Jeff Goldblum has decided to exit USA's "Law and Order: Criminal Intent."
Goldblum's reps told Variety on Tuesday that the thesp has made up his mind to depart, and says it's not a negotiating tactic.

There's always the possibility that Goldblum can reverse course, but for now the actor said that his decision is final.

Goldblum's decision to leave comes after two years on the USA drama. Goldblum's option with the show and Wolf Films had expired, and his reps said the actor chose to exit "due to the uncertainty" surrounding the show's future.

Parting is said to be amicable – Goldblum enjoyed his time with USA and Dick Wolf's Wolf Films, but ultimately decided to move on.

The ninth season of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" aired its finale July 6 on USA; the cabler has not yet determined whether it will give a tenth season to the show – which suffered audience erosion this last cycle.

Goldblum's exit – not yet confirmed by USA or Wolf – reps the latest casting change on the show, which underwent a major shift this year.

This season, Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian departed the show, while Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Saffron Burrows joined the cast.

Goldblum joined "Criminal Intent" in season eight, filling the void left by the departure of Chris Noth. Thesp has played Det. Zach Nichols over the past two years, at first alternating episodes with D'Onofrio. This season, with D'Onofrio departing, the focus shifted to Goldblum and partner Burrows.

Goldblum's other TV credits include the short-lived NBC drama "Raines." He also appeared in the Starz movie "Pittsburgh," as well as on an episode of that cabler's "Head Case."

Thesp will next be seen in the features "The Switch" and "Morning Glory."

Bummer! I was just getting into his character. Kinda grew on me as it was a major departure from D'Onofrio. Personally I liked Noth the best.

I guess he believed he was playing a losing hand and decided to fold it while he was still ahead. I suspect all of these L&O programs are eventually going down the drain as nothing lasts forever.

What Goldblum is saying essentially is that this show sucks and I can't allow it to further ruin my already fading career.

L&O:CI has always been the worst of the L&O shows. I don't know if it is the writing or the casting, but there has never been real chemistry there.

I have to disagree with you. L&O:CI is my favorite L&O show. I really enjoyed the partnership of Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe and thought they had very good chemistry.

In a nutshell, D'Onofrio WAS CI. He dominated every scene he was in. Not for nothing did my mom always call him the "In Your Face Guy".

Without him and KE, Criminal Intent is nothing.

I agree. Plus, I think the show was never the same without Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance. Actually, I think it was Jamey Sheridan's decision to leave the show because he wanted to go back to live/work in L.A. full-time.

Something tells me that CI won't be back. It was always the weakest of the L&O mainstays, even with the original cast (which was really good).

Add to that the move to USA, where it doesn't really fit in with the "cheap entertaining escapism" that is the USA formula (a formula that works pretty well - love Burn Notice and In Plain Sight, and like a couple of the others), and there isn't really a place for it.

Unless NBC wants to take it back, and they don't.

Good I boycotted the show after they gave the original cast the shaft thinking they could get by without them big mistake.
