How was A Different World not a popular show? It was in the top 3 shows on television in its first 4 seasons. In its fifth season, it actually outrated The Cosby Show.

Your right. A Different World was More Popular then Fresh Prince

The one show that truly have overstayed it's welcome was 7th Heaven. That show had bad acting and overly cheesy storylines. I do think Roseanne and Friends did last a bit too long but they only started to wane in quality in the last few seasons. For current TV shows the show that is overstaying it's welcome is One Tree Hill which is no longer watchable.

Sometimes lesser known shows are better than popular shows when it comes to acting and writing. Lesser known TV shows take more chances when it comes to gritty or edgy storylines. Lesser known TV shows don't cater to certain audience segments. Some of NBC's lesser known shows have better acting and writing than shows like The Office and SVU.

The actors on shows that end at the right time tend to be smart about their careers. They don't want to be typecast and they want to do different kinds of roles.
