How did Lucy take it?Was she supportive of her son's decision,and say something like "Good luck,son,We'll miss you on the show"or was she angry that he'd left?

In addition to co-starring on his mother's show, Here's Lucy, Desi Arnaz Jr. appeared with his Dad as a guest star on The Mothers-in-Law the year before HL premiered.

And when Desi Arnaz,Jr.left,one of his first projects was the 1971 Universal theatrical film co-starring Richard Thomas and the late Richard Crenna as Thomas' father,called "Red Sky at Morning".Does anyone remember seeing the film or reading Richard Bradford's book?

And,in 1965,Desi Arnaz,Jr.,the late Dean Martin,Jr,(,the late Dean Martin's son),and Billy Hinsche in 1965 formed the 1960's rock group Dino,Desi and Billy,and had top 30 hits with "I'm a Fool" and "Not the Lovin' Kind".

Desi jr. should have done many more Here's Lucy episodes. At least Shelley
Fabares made numerous guest appearances on the donna reed show after
she left. The show wasn't the same after Desi left.

I always heard that by this point (in 1971) his drug usage was rising and Lucy was getting fed up with it. But, I know someone who knows Desi Jr. and many many years ago, he said Desi told him he wanted off "Here's Lucy" because his friends made fun of him being on a show that appealed to an older audience. Desi aspired for a film career and he thought "here's Lucy" was hurting his chances for it.

Damn! He was really good on Here's Lucy. I enjoyed watching him more than his sister IMO.

He went away to college. He came back for one episode in season 5, Lucy & Joe Namath, where it was explained he was home from college, visiting.

season four of Here's Lucy (1971-72) finished in a tie for 10th place with The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Both shows had a rating of 23.7 which is very good. Only the last season (six) of Here's Lucy finished out of the Top 15 Shows (1973-74) in 29th place with a rating of 20.0 and a 31% share of the audience.
