Movie Todd Farmer Updates on "Hellraiser" Remake

Renewed Dimension Still Promises Hellraiser, Halloween
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
July 29, 2010

It has been no secret that Dimension Films is aiming to remake Hellraiser and deliver another Halloween film, since Rob Zombie rebooted that franchise.

Now, if the Hollywood Reporter offered much more on the status of either production - that would be news. But today, in an article about the Weinstein brothers, they just confirmed that plans for both franchises are still in development.

Another Children of the Corn is in the works - since that 2009 SyFy remake didn't exactly hit it big - as well as another Scary Movie

Where is Hellraiser at right now?

Dimension has apparently been out to a number of writers, fielding various treatments from Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, Christian E. Christiansen, Cory Goodman and others.

If we're going to do yet another Children of the Corn, I wish they would at least end it like King's original story.

That's when the children enter the cornfields after failing to kill the husband, right?

"He Who Walks Behind The Rows" kills the husband, then the kids show up and the clearing and Malachi and Joseph walk into the corn because they both have turned 18.

And so the horror genre continues to consume itself from the inside, eschewing originality for cynical nostalgia and laziness.

Yes, I know there have always been sequels throughout the history of horror films but until the last 20 or so years these were balanced by new and vital scripts. If you discount the Japanese adaptations (which when you think about it, STILL aren't original scripts) we really have precious little new vision in horror since the 90's or so.

Sad, but probably the way things will be from now on.

One thing that made a comeback in horror after the 90s was the introduction of "torture porn".

That is taking the 80s cheesy splatter films and making them "realistic" and gory with films like SAW, Hostel, Captivity...

Horror still has originality going on, but a lot of it is in the indie scene and those films don't get much notice from general audiences.

A Few More Bits of Info on Hellraiser: Revelations!

Thursday, August 19, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

This morning it was revealed that Pinhead would be returning in Hellraiser: Revelations, a stand alone film in the Hellraiser franchise being directed by Victor Garcia from a screenplay by special effects artists Gary Tunnicliffe.

Bloody Disgusting did some digging and got a few more pieces of info:

- Shooting is already scheduled to begin this September(!).

- It is in fact a sequel, and not the long-gestured 3-D remake (which could very well still happen).

- Dimension Films is behind it.

- It's a small budget film that's said to be going "balls to the wall."

- Lastly, Doug Bradley could possibly return as Pinhead, although we're being told he won't.

- Casting is underway as we speak.

Children of the Corn: The Dweller Shooting Next Month

Thursday, August 19, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

What a bizarre news day, eh?

Bloody Disgusting just got tipped off that a new Children of the Corn is also in the works. Entitled Children of the Corn: The Dweller, Joel Soisson is set to direct from his own screenplay. Shooting is scheduled to begin this September in Los Angeles.

Soisson, who produced the 2001 Children of the Corn: Revelation, directed both Pulse and Prophecy sequels for Dimension Films.

He wrote the screenplays for Dracula 2000, and all of the sequels, along with Hollow Man II, Hellraiser: Hellworld and many others.

The plot begins on a trip to California, a family's car overheats leaving them stranded in the home of a creepy couple and their kid.

We've Got Some Brand New Hellraiser Details!

Monday, August 23, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

We've got even more details regarding the low budget return of Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revelations.

The plot will follow two friends who unleash Pinhead (who becomes their master of pain). Apparently, one of the friends has a change of heart. He backs out on his oath hoping to swap himself out with one of his friend's family members.

We also learned there will be a male and female cenobite escorting Pinhead around town, with a new "Pseudo-Pinhead" being introduced.

Shooting begins this September in Los Angeles!

I hate that phrase- torture porn, I know it's the easiest way to describe that particular subgenre but there's just something about it....

I agree. There are some very talented film makers out there making original and entertaining horror films, but you have to look outside of the mainstream cinemas to find them. And even the ones that aren't that original are generally better than most of the horror films getting released on the big screen. Not to mention the foreign horror market has got some amazing stuff coming out.
