That's a great article Paul. Cleveland sure has had a lot of bad things happen to it over the years.

You forgot the eighth curse of Cleveland sports, the Cleveland Barons! The Barons played in Cleveland for two years from 1976 - 1978. Their record over two seasons was 47 wins, 87 losses, and 26 ties. They also suffered from poor attendance and after two seasons the franchise merged with the Minnesota North Stars. You may want to rethink being a hockey fan Paul!

That's the "Fart" of the Seven Curses of Cleveland Sports, which is called "The Merge".

I know other Curses in Cleveland like "The Shot", "The Collapse" and a few others, but feel free to rate the article or make comments.

That's an interesting article. Couple of observations:

1) "The Catch" (Willie Mays) Vic Wertz (who hit the ball that Mays caught) had 4 hits in that game. Had Mays not caught up with that blast, Wertz would have been the first player to get 5 hits in one World Series game. As it happens, Paul Molitor, in 1982, became the first (and so far, I believe the only) player to collect 5 hits in one W.S. game.

Wertz tripled in the first inning, singled in the 4th inning, singled again in the 6th inning, was robbed by Mays in the 8th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Heck, if he could have gotten an inside the park HR on the ball that Mays caught, he would have hit for the cycle.

2) The Trade (Rocky Colavito). The Indians finished 2nd in 1955 and 1956 after reaching the series in 1954. But they dropped to 6th in 1957 and 4th in 1958, and were back to 2nd in 1959. The Yankees were still formidable, and I doubt that trading Colavito cost them any early-60s pennants. The Yanks kept re-tooling and won 5 straight pennants from 1960-64. If the Indians were going to do anything, it would have to have been during the 1965-68 period, between the demise of the Yankees and the rise of the Baltimore Orioles (the Orioles won the series in 1966, but in 67 and 68, the AL was wide open).

4) The Drive - I have always said that "The Drive" was overrated. Why? Because it was against the Browns! Everyone's calling that the greatest comeback ever, but I've always said, "so what, who COULDN'T drive 86 yards against the Browns? They're THE BROWNS!!"
Even if the Browns got past the Broncos, I don't think they would have beaten the Giants in the Super Bowl. And it's better to not make the Super Bowl than it is to get there and lose. Just ask the Vikings. Or the Bills.

"The Move" was terrible. Even us Steeler fans felt sorry for Browns fans.

"The Decision". Time will tell.

In Game 5 of the ALCS, The Cleveland Indians were 3-1 over the Boston Red Sox (For the New Yorkers...The Boston Red Sux). But Boston steamrolled the Indians making them go to The World Series and sweeping the Rockies.

The game that was considered most was when Kenny Lofton made a catch, but it was considered an error.

That's when I thought that Pro Sports were fixed! They would rather have a Big Market city like Boston, New York, L.A., or Chicago to win it all and have Cleveland lose forever. That's also why Las Vegas doesn't have a Pro Sports Team, because they make all the decisions there.

Even if the Browns got past the Broncos, I don't think they would have beaten the Giants in the Super Bowl. And it's better to not make the Super Bowl than it is to get there and lose. Just ask the Vikings. Or the Bills.

"The Decision". Time will tell.

I like the objectives to #2 and #4.

2) The Trade-The Indians should've picked up the pieces after trading Colavito and now we're STILL paying the price by trading all our good players due to a salary cap. I wish Dan Gilbert or one of Steinbrenner's children would have some ownership of the most hated baseball team The Cleveland Indians (or as I call them...The Cleveland Steamers Baseball Club)!

4) The Drive-I dunno, but I may watch "Hot Tub Time Machine" because they mention 'The Drive' in the movie. And for the Broncos...yeah, they put too much in the AFC Championship and gave nothing in the Super Bowl until 1997.

Super Bowl XXI-19 point margian between the Giants and Broncos
Super Bowl XXII-32 point margian between the Redskins and Broncos (with the 'skins having 35 points in the 2nd quarter)!
Super Bowl XXIV-45 point margian between the 49ers and Broncos

The biggest comeback was Houston vs. Buffalo in 1993 when the Oilers were 28-3 in the first half, but in the 2nd half it was 35-10 Buffalo (this is by points BTW) making the game 38-38 and the Bills would win by a Field Goal.
