Default Don't you wish Unsolved Mysteries would release the first 2 or 3 seasons on DVD?

to see if they sold well?

I'd certainly buy all 3.

I own the Unsolved Murders and UFO dvd's but have held off on buying the others due to the fact that maybe one day the full seasons will be released. I can only hope.....

Yeah, they should've done it that way in the first place. Like 1988-1993 or so (the pre-Keely years), also since even though those are the oldest, they're the most iconic and memorable ones for most fans.

Even though Stack didn't quite live long enough to see the majority of DVD releases (I'd say most tv shows didn't start coming out en masse until '04/05 or so) and therefore couldn't have done the commentaries, it would've been even neater to have some commentary or even just more notes on all the cases. Even if they hadn't been solved, just any leads that could possibly have helped. Also, maybe releasing some old interviews with RS as a bonus feature.

I bet those would sell better than the existing sets did, even if they decided to do so now.

Cosgrove/Meurer, last I knew. And they don't seem too willing to do so. About a year ago, a 12 disc, 92 episode box set showed up on Amazon, and it was official. It was supposed to be released last October. When the release date came and went, I sent them an email. I got a reply saying that "not enough stores showed an interest," so they weren't going to bother. Right. They obviously don't check this site, because they'd see that there is a market for it. I replied, asking if it was a possibility for the future, and never got a response.

Yeah, but we're only a handful of people. I actually get teased by my husband and other friends by watching reruns now. They all say the show was neat when it was airing, but sadly I just don't think it's one a lot of people would add to their movie rack. We can always hope, though!

Sadly, it's a numbers game, and I don't think there is enough perceived interest for them to do this.

Unfortunately, I don't think that a season by season set would even sell 1000 copies. There just aren't enough UM fans out there for it to be economical for the copyright owners to create season sets. Also, it seems that the compilation discs they have released thus far didn't sell too well, so they might see it as a huge gamble with no real payoff to release UM season by season.

I've said this before on other threads, but I also wonder if legal issues would prevent them from releasing the episodes in truly "unedited" first run broadcast form. There are many, many stories that were never shown again on Lifetime or Spike after they aired on NBC. There has to be a reason for that ie lawsuits, threats of lawsuits, families/victims requesting their story not being shown after it was solved etc.

I wish they would put the original versions on DVD season sets but I just don't see that happening. I don't think the demand is there on a large scale although I hope I'm wrong.

I'm with you on this and I think the blame lands squarely on Cosgrove-Muerer's terrible business decisions.

Unsolved Mysteries was a show that used to finish in the top 10 of the weekly Nielsens with regularity in the early 90s and has developed a rabid, albeit small, fan base who followed the show from network to network. This decade has seen the American television viewing public go gaga over forensic criminology, criminal profiling, and true crime non-fiction narratives. There are channels solely devoted to such shows now. If they can't find a way to market their product to grab some of that pie that is their own fault and it smacks of a company woefully inept. They royally screwed the pooch ((no offense to dog lovers out there)) with this SpikeTV UM revamp. The whole "no new episodes but re-releases of the old ones" was a try for some of the aforementioned market, a try to get some sort of buzz going for DVD releases, but its been a horrible failure. As evidenced by the comment above regarding no merchant interest. Whoever they gave the keys to on the Spike TV thing flat out ruined whatever momentum they could have got going with the horrible choices they made trying to "hip it up" for a new audience.

Corky, I agree with you 100%. CM screwed up royally throwing the "Cool Version" of UM at us on Spike. If they would've thought about it for more than five seconds, they could've done something incredibly cool. They should've tried to make the fans of the ORIGINAL UM happy and go from there, and gain fans, instead of making the Super Cool Guy edition and ignoring their original fanbase.

I find CM to be quite arrogant people. They refuse to release any more UM DVDs or regularly release new eps. Yet, if someone posts a vid on YouTube god forbid! They are quick to report anyone who is just sharing what should be available on DVD.

Hmmmm...might be interesting. Were you able to track down an episode listing for this? I might take a gamble...
