Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said today Michael Vick is a "very nice guy" who needs to learn to stay out of bad situations. Reid's comments came during the coach's opening news conference of the Birds' training camp at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus. The NFL said today that it would have no further comment on Vick at this time. Reid made it clear Vick would not be sanctioned by the team after a shooting incident June 25 during Vick's 30th birthday party at a Virginia Beach, Va., nightclub. The alleged shooting victim, identified by Vick's lawyer as Quanis Phillips, was a co-defendant in Vick's dog-fighting case in which Vick was convicted. Vick consistently maintains he did nothing wrong in the shooting case and repeated that to reporters today. "Two or three weeks ago I was curious if I was going to make it to training camp," he said. "But I knew the facts. I knew that I didn't do anything wrong." Reid was satisfied with what has transpired in the case. "Michael called me the night it happened and while I am not going to get into what went on between us, his story has been the same all the way through," Reid said. "Michael has learned from it and knows he needs to stay out of bad situations." Pressed by reporters on why Vick was being given another chance after the Eagles had warned Vick of the consequences, Reid said, "He didn't break the law. Michael can be a very nice guy who wants to please and do the best he can." |
