The CW's "Nikita" Makes Its Debut at Comic-Con
"Nikita" Secrets Revealed at Pilot Screening at Comic Con
by Michael Maloney posted Jul 25th 2010 Comic Con devoted three huge rooms for a screening and Q&A session on Saturday for "Nikita". The TV series extends the legacy of the famous spy that's been played in previous incarnations by Anne Parillaud, Bridget Fonda and Peta Wilson. Maggie Q takes on the role in this version, which debuts Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 9PM ET on The CW. The cast also includes Shane West, Lyndsy Fonseca and Melinda Clarke. The pilot sets up some of Nikita's backstory, her relationships with her former bosses/co-workers in the spy biz and how Fonesca's Alex is recruited to become the next Nikita. While viewers will learn that Nikita had a relationship with West's Michael, a new dude will enter her life as the series continues. "It was important for us to come up with a fresh take on Nikita that isn't just a rehash," explained Craig Silverstein to Con attendees. "There's now two of them, Nikita and Alex. You don't know how it's going to end. We're going to be telling the story of how Alex and Nikita got together." Maggie was enticed to play the role because the series is going to combine known elements of Nikita with her uncertain future. "Nobody has told Nikita's story after the fact," she says. The show shoots in Toronto, but Maggie and the crew enjoyed one sunny day in Malibu to shoot a hot tub scene in which Nikita's wearing a red bikini. Did Maggie have any reservations about going so skimpy? "Like my huge boobs falling out?" she laughs. The actress asked wardrobe for a one-piece suit. When she got it she said, "'That's not a one-piece. That's a two piece with a piece of string!" Fonseca revealed she's going to get physical in an upcoming episode. "There's a cat-fight," she previews. "We worked hard on it. I love it." Maggie adds: "The dudes are going to love it!" So who might win in a death cage match among all four Nikitas? "Oh, please," Maggie replies. "I know who's losing!" Perhaps the winner could take on Melinda Clarke, whose character serves as somewhat of a den mother to Fonseca's spy-in-training Alex. "Melinda's like the 'set mommy,'" Fonseca raves. "She's really elegant. It's really fun to work with her." Comparisons are being made to the Jennifer Garner series "Alias", which sits fine with Silverstein. "We watch 'Alias' and the Jason Bourne movies in the writers' room," he says. "We want to keep that candle burning and keep them alive, but not try to copy them." http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/07/25/ni...-at-comic-con/ |
