Guillermo del Toro Updates on "The Haunted Mansion"
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – July 22, 2010 –Guillermo del Toro surprised the 6,500 fans gathered today at Comic-Con with the announcement that he is currently developing a new film for The Walt Disney Studios based on the classic Disney theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.
“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters - think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn't be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!" “Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.” Since August 1969, foolish mortals have dared to trespass on the macabre grounds of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. A hallowed landmark in Disneyland’s New Orleans square, it’s the dwelling place of 999 happy haunts dying to meet new visitors each day. The plantation-style of the mansion’s facade is a sweet deception for visitors. Inside, ghostly doom buggies line the hallways. Since its construction, the mysteries of the mansion have transcended the attraction with stories surfacing about horrifying encounters with the supernatural. Versions of the daunting edifice have been built at other Disney theme parks in Orlando, Tokyo and Paris. http://www.deadline.com/2010/07/disn...on/#more-55760 |

Guillermo del Toro Not Directing The Haunted Mansion ... For Now
July 26, 2010 | By: Bryan Enk It looks like the spirit world hasn't exactly replaced Middle-earth for Guillermo del Toro. Last week, the Hellboy director surprised the 6,500 attendees at San Diego Comic-Con with an announcement that he's developing a new Haunted Mansion film at Disney. Several trades quickly posted that del Toro had officially announced his next directing project, now that he's no longer involved with The Hobbit. However, del Toro has since clarified his involvement with the film with a personal letter to Latino Review, explaining that he is only producing and co-writing The Haunted Mansion -- for now. "I would love to direct it if the timing allows," he says. "But I already have the next directing project ready to be announced in a week or so." What that next directing project will be is anybody's guess, as del Toro has several projects in development, including an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness and his own take on Frankenstein. For now, The Haunted Mansion has del Toro pretty excited. "For some people, 'Haunted Mansion' is just a ride," he says. "For others, like me, who got caught in it at the precise age, it is almost a way of life." http://insidemovies.moviefone.com/20...nsion-for-now/ |

My Guess that it'll be a PG-13 Film.

Del Toro on The Haunted Mansion
Source: MTV August 12, 2011 "'The Haunted Mansion' is going great. We're on our second draft of the screenplay. We have a huge show-and-tell which is about 40 pieces of art. We're in full contact with Disney imagineers and we are making sure that we are not only faithful to the mansion, the ride, but that the movie reflects the ride and that the ride reflects the movie. It's been a very elaborate and original process through the original art from the design of the mansion. We went through the Disney Archives... you know I would have loved to do a little swindling... we found all of the original sketches and art that I'm a huge fan of. We also explored the mansion on foot aroud 5am in the morning. It took about 2 hours and we went behind-the-scenes, people thought I was insane but this was one of the happiest days of my life." http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=20474 |

Hey, Where the Heck is Guillermo del Toro's Haunted Mansion Flick?
by Ryan Turek August 08, 2012 A few years have passed since Guillermo del Toro and Disney announced they were teaming up for a new film based on The Haunted Mansion ride. Del Toro was attached to write and produce the project. In August of 2011, he said he was working on a second draft of the script...since then, things have been fairly quiet. In a chat with Collider, del Toro revealed: “I delivered my last draft five weeks ago. I have a meeting with them in three weeks. I know they like the screenplay. I need to meet with them in three weeks. That’s what I know. I know their reaction to the draft was good. We have a bunch of conceptualist art, but you never know, to predict anything else is hard for me to know.” So, the project isn't dead or anything of the sort, just moving slowly along. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...-mansion-flick |

Guillermo del Toro Talks Status of The Haunted Mansion Movie
by Ryan Turek July 12, 2014 Guillermo del Toro’s feature film take on Disney’s The Haunted Mansion still has some life in it, surprisingly. It’s been two full years since we last had an update on the film. Four years since it was announced at Comic-Con. During a Reddit AMA, someone brought up this project and asked about the status to which he responded… "Well, I spent 2 weeks ago, I went back to Disneyland with the executives with whom I am developing the screenplay. It’s a hard screenplay to crack. We’ve done it a few times. We are on our third or fourth draft, with 2 different writing teams, and I think the main thing is to try to combine everything that is great about the ride into the movie, and to make it a really intense but with a sense of fun – just like the ride. It’s a tough balance, and I would be happy to report if we had the screenplay. We always feel like we are very close, but not yet. We have developed 50-60 pieces of art, We’ve developed maquettes of the Hat Box Ghost, over the body and face of Doug Jones, but we have not succeeded yet in cracking the screenplay. I have to believe that Disney will make this movie as soon as we crack the screenplay, but until then we cannot tackle it. It is a movie I would love to direct, but I would be happy to just produce it if the timing is not right. I, by the way, was named Guest for the Day for the Haunted Mansion the last time I did, which gave me unlimited access to ride the mansion several times during the day. Unfortunately it was just the moment my left knee decided to bust and I had to go back home with a busted knee." http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...mansion-movie/ |
