The items were saved by the senior embalmer at the Memphis Funeral Home that prepared Elvis' body.
KTLA News 10:38 AM EDT, July 21, 2010 CHICAGO -- Forget his blue suede shoes -- now you can own the instruments used in Elivs Presley's autopsy and embalming. The tools are going up for auction in Chicago, including the "John Doe" toe tag used after the original was stolen amid the chaos at the hospital following the King of Rock and Roll's death. All of the items used in Presley's autopsy and funeral preparations will be auctioned off in sets, from rubber gloves and forceps to a comb and eye liner, according to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. The sets hold a value of up to $6,000 and $8,000. The items were saved by the senior embalmer at the Memphis Funeral Home, which prepared the singer's body. The auction will be held on Aug. 12, four days before the 33rd anniversary of Presley's death. Last year, a clump of hair believed to have been trimmed from the King's head when he joined the Army in 1958 sold for $15,000 at the same auction house. |
