It was called the "Baileys of Baboa" and centered on a Captain and his Ship mate who went on boat tours. Prefferably the 3 hour tour kind...sound familiar?
![]() It was primarily developed for the network because its president, James T. Aubrey, insisted that Gilligan's Island, which premiered the same season (and a series he personally loathed), would have been a better show had it centered on the exploits of a charter boat captain operating in a marina...and had his old friend Keefe Brasselle produce his version of the idea in order to prove his point. After Aubrey was fired from the network in February 1965 (amid charges of "conflict of interest" in scheduling the show and two other Brasselle productions without formal pilot episodes), The Baileys of Balboa fulfilled its 26 episode commitment, and was abruptly cancelled. Gilligan's Island continued for two more seasons. http://legendsrevealed.com/entertain...s-revealed-33/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Baileys_of_Balboa |

Those two other Keefe Brasselle shows, also duds, were "The Cara Williams Show"(this one lasted the whole season),and "The Reporter"(with the late Harry Guardino and the late Gary Merrill, and was cancelled at midseason).Getting back to the question,I did NOT know this.Aubrey hated "Gilligan's Island",but viewers didn't,nor did a very young Fred Silverman, whom I've heard, started at CBS in the 1960's,because when he became head honcho at NBC in the mid 1970's,he,I presume ,gave the go-ahead for the "Gilligan's Island" TV-cast reunion movies on NBC.Weird, huh?

I traded for an episode of Baileys of Balboa, and it really isn't that bad, but it lacked a fun quality too it. Really just average 60's jokes. Nothing special at all.

When I read the title of the thread, I immediately thought of "Dusty's Trail". I never heard of the "Baileys of Baboa."

Bart Andrews wrote about this show in his book "The Worst TV Shows of All Time." His book also had a chapter for GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, so he got parts of 2 chapters from the same research.

I saw a few episodes of this series on YouTube, the show had talent and the premise with a little fixing might have worked, the main problem is this, the show was very poorly cast. The actors were not the right actors for these roles.
