"The Woman in Black" is the Most Successful British Horror Film in 20 Years
Harry Potter Takes a Stab at Horror With The Woman in Black
Monday, July 19, 2010 By: MrDisgusting Daniel Radcliffe - best known to the world as Harry Potter - will take his leap into horror as he's scored the lead in The Woman in Black, Hammer Films and Alliance Films hotly anticipated 3-D adaptation of Susan Hill's best-selling novel being directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake). Sounding quite similar to Nosferatu and Dracula, Radcliffe plays a lawyer sent to a foreign land where horror is discovered. The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote corner of the UK and sort out a recently deceased client's papers. As he works alone in an old and isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover its tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he discovers that the local village is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance. Production is expected to begin in the Fall of 2010. Daniel Radcliffe said: "I am incredibly excited to be part of 'The Woman In Black'. Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure. It is thrilling to be working with James Watkins. From his brilliant work on 'Eden Lake' and also having met him and heard his vision for the film, I know he will make a fantastic film." http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/20937 |

Personally, I doubt it will be as good(or even remotely close) to the 1989 version, which is one of the best ghost movies out there. But maybe with the new version the 80's one will get a DVD re release.

Hammer's Woman in Black Casting Update
Source: Deadline,Total Film September 8, 2010 Hammer Films' The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, has added Janet McTeer and Ciaran Hinds to the cast. The latter will be seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. McTeer just starred in the thriller Roadkill for John Stockwell. Radcliffe's character will have a son. The actor tells Total Film: "We were doing auditions for my son yesterday which was bizarre. But it's very exciting and James Watkins is fantastic. He might kill me for telling you this, but he's actually started working with an acting coach to give him a better idea of how to approach stuff with actors. Which is a brilliant thing – I don't know of any other directors doing that. He's inspired and we're uncannily on the same page about the film. We met and we agreed that this film is not a scary movie but a film about loss and family and grief." Shooting begins on the film on September 23. Hammer has opted not to shoot the film in 3D as originally planned. http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=16469 |

I've seen the 1989 version and despite it being a really good ghost story, things were changed from the book. This version looks like it may follow the book more closely.

Oct 19, 2011 by Anthony Breznican At first glance, this poster image seems to have suffered not only the scratches over the eyes, but a bit of water damage as well. Move your cursor over it, however, and something else emerges… http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/10/1...imated-poster/ |
