Lucie Arnaz tries to stop Auction

This doesn't sound right to me. How could Gary Morton's widow feel she owns these things and has a right to auction them off.

The daughter of comedy queen LUCILLE BALL is going to war over her late mother's prized possessions.

Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, the daughter of Lucy and first hubby and TV costar Desi Arnaz, is going to ask a court to block the scheduled auction of her mother's prized heirlooms.

Ms. Luckinbill claims many of the items belong to her.

These items include love letters between Ball and her second husband, Gary Morton, photographs and her many lifetime achievement awards

Morton's widow, Susie, who married him after Lucy's death, has sued Luckinbill in return to get a judge's order to OK bidding on the auction by Heritage Auction Galleries.

Lucie's attorney Ronald Palmieri says a court hearing is scheduled for later today deciding whether the auction scheduled for tomorrow can be stopped.

I hope this auction is stopped. Some of those items are very personal and shouldn't be auctioned off. They rightly belong to Lucy's heirs Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.!

Unfortunately, the auction is on! I found it weird that Lucie Arnaz couldn't come up with the money to block this. Here is the article.

A judge in Los Angeles agreed to block it but imposed a bond of $250,000 (£150,000) that she would have to pay to get a restraining order on the auction.

Her lawyer, Ronald Palmieri, said the amount was too high and could not be met. He said: "We won on a legal basis and the judge took it away from us on an economic basis. That is very sad."
When she died in 1989 Ball was married to her second husband Gary Morton.

He went on to marry again and the items are being put up for sale by his third wife Susie Morton.

Other items up for auction include a Silver Spur Rolls-Royce and the actress's address book. They have been described by the auctioneers as a "trove of Lucy-related material."

Mrs Morton, a former professional golfer, says the items passed to her on the death of her husband in 1999. She had hung on to them for more than 10 years out of respect for Miss Ball's legacy.

She had previously sought a judge's order that the items were rightfully hers, allowing the sale to go ahead in Beverly Hills this weekend. Mrs Luckinbill in turn went to court to seek the restraining order.

Mrs Luckinbill has claimed through her lawyer that the sale "prostitutes" the memory of her mother.

Ball was one of the best known women in America in the 1950s thanks to the sitcom "I Love Lucy" in which she starred alongside her first husband.

It looks like the auction house did the honorable thing.
Most of Lucille's most memorable work was with Desi, so I don't understand why she would leave these to Gary.
Gary was basically a third rate comic.
They could keep the love letters.
I am curious because wasn't Lucille around 50 when she Married Gary.
I liked the Desi/Lucille love letters, now they were love letters.

After Lucille died, was Gary really going to do anything to honor her.
It seems his main thing was golfing.

An auction house selling Lucille Ball memorabilia says it is returning the actress' lifetime achievement awards to her daughter.

Heritage Auction Galleries says a deal reached Saturday will return the awards to Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, Ball's daughter with first husband Desi Arnaz.

A sale of dozens of other Ball-related memorabilia will happen Saturday. Items up for bid include a Rolls Royce and love letters to second husband Gary Morton.

The deal announced Saturday ends a legal fight between Luckinbill and Susie Morton, who married Gary Morton after Ball's death in 1989.

A judge agreed to stop the auction Friday but imposed a high bond Luckinbill couldn't meet.

She has said the awards will be displayed in a museum honoring her mother.

Gary signed some sort of pre-nup with Lucille. He was 13 years Lucille's junior. She was around 50 when they got together. I believed she fudged the ages so she wouldn't seem like a cougar.
A lot of what Lucy did for him, things like making him executive producer on her show was to not make him appear like a kept man.
Gary and Susie where only married for about three years before he died.
I don't know who the breadwinner was?

If Morton had thought working for Ball would be an easy ride, he was mistaken. By the accounts of all present, it was common for Ball to accuse Morton of "standing around," and admonish him to shut up or get out. Still, Morton enjoyed the luxurious lifestyle of an avid golfer and car collector.
