Is this episode edited on the DVD? I don't think so because it has the approximate running time of the others on season 1. However, the tag that they show in the beginning of Poncho in Beavers locker and he and Wally talk about Mr. Bloomgarden doing an inspection is nowhere to be found in the rest of the episode (unless I was changing out laundry at that time). I found this odd as these tags from the latter half of season one that weren't narrated by Hugh Beaumont show up somewhere in the episode.
The logical place for it would've been at the beginning of the second act. In the episode on the DVD, the second act fades up and June is talking to the dogs owner. Maybe the scene was supposed to be before then as Beaver makes reference in the classroom to Mr. Bloomgarden after he's busted with the dog in his jacket. Just found this one odd as those tags have been in all of the episodes I've watched thus far. Anyone have any thoughts or know? |

I have the Universal sets of LITB and I know what you're talking about with the oddity of the set up. I do however think they are the uncut versions, but for some strange reason they showed some of the uncut scenes in the previews or whatever. I have not watched the first two seasons from my new set from Shout yet because I like the later seasons more and haven't seen them as often.....thanks to TV Land. I think Brian Ward at Shout said they used Universal's film for the first two seasons so I imagine it's the same setup. I would assume that saved time and money.

I noticed the same thing in the season 1 ep when Wally goes to the dance with Mary Ellen Rogers and she uses Beaver to get to him. There is a scene in the cafeteria used in the opening tag that is nowhere to be found in the ep. I'm sure they're complete, I just found it odd when the other episodes all had the tag somewhere in the episode themselves. Good stuff!

I just picked up on this yesterday. I got a copy of the episode that is a 16 mm copy of the original. It has the original Remington Rand commercials and brought to you bys. And the end credits run with a typewriter behind them. The credits include the Remington Rand announcer, and credit for production in association with the CBS Television Network.
BUT the opening teaser scene, with Beaver and Wally in the school hall by the lockers, and Beaver revealing Poncho to Wally, is NOWHERE in the episode. And before I read this thread this morning, I checked the Universal DVD copy. It's nowhere there, either. The scene probably belongs right after the middle break. I have a VHS copy of the syndication episode. I'm gonna check it on that, later. |
