'The Office' Dwight Schrute Tops Greatest Geek Characters on TV

Dwight Schrute from the US version of The Office has come top in a list of television's greatest geek characters.

The socially awkward salesman has been played by comedian Rainn Wilson since the show began on NBC in 2005.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air geek Carlton Banks (played by Alfonso Ribeiro) came second in the list, compiled by Den of Geek.

Other characters in the rundown included eccentric Tobias Fünke (David Cross) from axed Fox comedy Arrested Development and J.D. (Zach Braff) from Scrubs.

In sixth place, The Inbetweeners character Will McKenzie (played Simon Bird) was the highest placed character from a British show. Tina Fey's character Liz Lemon from 30 Rock was the only female geek to make the list.
