One of the only ones I could find was the MTV sketch comedy "The State" (1993-1995).
There were talks between MTV and networks to have "The State" air opposite "SNL". CBS made an offer that they would air a series of "The State" specials to attract a network audience and see how well it does, promising to make it into a regular series if it attracted viewers. The plans fell through when it was reported in news sources that the network executive of "The State" made racist remarks about the late-night African-American audience. He was fired after this but the damage was already done when CBS became less supportive of it and advertisers pulled out. "The State" then aired one of its specials on CBS and was a success with the critics but failed in the ratings; becoming "The State's" final episode. |
