Cool

Glad to see ATWT get half of the acting awards - and I must admit I got a bit misty when Maura West invited her daughter to come up on stage with her. Wonder what CBS thinks now - their network won most of the major awards and they cancelled the show that won the most.

Another moment I found very moving was Susan Lucci's presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Agnes Nixon (creator of AMC and OLTL, plus her writing of shows like Search For Tomorrow, ATWT, Guiding Light and especially Another World put her on the map). This is one of the most important women in daytime history who helped shape daytime drama into an artform - tackling social issues as well as memorable romantic couples/triangles with a healthy dose of humor tossed in - and she was so humble!!!! For a woman who has to be at least in her mid-70s, Mrs. Nixon is extremely beautiful!!

Getting back to ATWT, it was nice that they had a little tribute montage (that ran too short for my taste - did we really need the Blue Man Group and the Lion King cast eating up all that extra time?) - but did anyone happen to mention the name of ATWT's late, great matriarch, Helen Wagner? I missed about the first hour of the show, so I have no idea if they did or not.

Other touching moments: the Dick Clark tribute, and all the acceptance speeches from actors to hosts alike were short and to the point - but they were all from the heart and you could tell they were all ecstatic. Congrats to all the winners and nominees!!!

Thumbs up

Let me add that I was stunned that Maura West upset Crystal Chappell for Lead Actress. With the "Otalia" storyline getting so much positive feedback from fans and press alike, I thought that CC was the shoo-in. But it was nice that both Maura and her long-time co-star and on-screen love interest, Michael Park, won the Lead Acting awards. Very cool!

Well, I was very pleased with the Billy Miller win (and it was expected). I was also happy for Julie Pinson. However, Christel Khalil was once again snubbed for Younger Actress. She especially deserved it this year for the cancer storyline. Not too shocking about all of the ATWT wins.

Also nice was that 4 of the 6 winners in the acting categories were first time winners (the exceptions being Maura West and Julie Berman, who picked up their second trophies). I just couldn't get over how happy everyone (nominees, winners, non-nominees) seemed to be. They all seemed so excited to be there. Then again, maybe most of them were just waiting to hit the casinos once the show was over.

I really liked Drew Tyler Bell's (B&B) speech because he thanked Jesus at the end of it. I always appreciate it when actors do that, and had Jonathan Jackson of GH (who already has three Emmys to his name) edged out Billy Miller in the Supporting Actor category, he would've done so, too. Very classy and touching, too.

(P.S. Speaking of Billy Miller, I just found out he is only three days older than me. )

Billy Miller is also the second actor to win an Emmy for portraying Billy Abbott.

That's right - I'd forgotten about David Tom. Is David Tom even still acting? After he left OLTL, it seems like he dropped off the face of the earth!!

I just looked him up on IMDb, and apparently he was in an episode of Criminal Minds, an episode of Supernatural and several episodes of Veronica Mars. It seems he was also in some web series this year. I always wished he would make a return to Y&R. The two Billy re-casts following him were beyond dreadful. I was shocked when Billy Miller was actually good in the role. He resurrected Billy Abbott and gave him a personality again.

Thanks for that info, Michael!! I did read that one of the Billys between David Tom and Billy Miller, Ryan Brown, recently quit show biz to become a novelist.
