Default John McEnroe mentions Ralph on Wimbledon telecast

Anyone watching current #1 tennis player Rafael Nadal in a Wimbledon match on NBC this last Saturday, would have heard tennis great John McEnroe mention Ralph Kramden during the 4th set. In explaining how easy something was with Nadal, McEnroe said "It's a mere bag of shells, as Ralph Kramden would say." I guess John McEnroe is a Honeymooner fan... John being from New York doesn't hurt I guess!

TRIVIA: Anyone know the episode or episodes when Ralph said that line??

That's easy. I think it was the $99,000 Answer. Alice: "I will be happy if you answered the first three questions and came home with $600." Ralph: "$600? A mere bag of shells."

There may have been other episodes where he said: "A mere bag of shells."

Very cool Dizzy Dean! I'm sure Kramden and Gleason are quoted a lot by writers and such but you don't hear it on TV very often.

Speaking of Kramden, I noticed this picture the other day and it steams me!
I think it is very disrespectful.

BTW,Ralph also mentions a mere bag of shells in 'Funny Money'. I wonder how many other episodes this was said in.

Loved when Alice brought up going for the $600 again...

Alice: I'd be very proud of you, if you came home with the $600.

Ralph: Peanuts, Peanuts, what am I going to do with Peanuts?

Alice: Eat em', like every other elephant!

I agree too! I went over there and changed the main photo to a Jackie pic, with Ralph & Alice. I don't know how to add photos over there though?? If I did, I would load it up with many of Jackie photos I have!

Speaking of the so called Honeymooner movie... Couldn't they have gotten John Goodman to be Ralph Kramden? Nobody can take Jackie's place and do it complete justice, but Goodman would have been the closest person that I can think of to play the role.

Correct on "Funny Money." Along with Frank's answer, I can't think of any other episodes at the moment.

You are true blue Dizzy Dean! Thanks for changing that photo. Do you have to pay any dues in order to be registered with imdb?

As far as the movie goes, I wonder if they had to gain permission form the copyright owners. If so, what in the heck were they thinking? Maybe they didn't need permission, but had to pay royalties.

No, didn't have to pay anything, only if you want to upgrade to IMDB PRO. Maybe than I can load many of my photos of Jackie Gleason, the real Ralph Kramden, not the imposter! I don't think people who type in the name "Ralph Kramden" should see anyone other than the face of Jackie Gleason!

Does any brother raccoons want to second that?

As far as that movie, I remember hearing for years that it was going to be John Goodman, than Tom Arnold.... Many of these tv shows turned theatrical movies always do a bad job with casting. If anybody was going to be Ralph Kramden for a movie, I'll take John Goodman... He did get to play Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones movie, which is based on The Honeymooners, so maybe he didn't want to do it
