What is the deal with the off the clock schedule on TV Land? I'm not familiar with it. I tried asking before in the TV Land thread, but I was ignored.

It's that, but it also adds in extra commercials. For example, during their 3 hour morning block, there is 1/2 an hour of programming missing...
- All in the Family (listed as 9a - 9:30a) - Sanford and Son (listed as 9:30a - 10a) - Sanford and Son (listed as 10a - 10:30a) - Gunsmoke (listed as 10:30a - 12p) They do it weekday mornings, late nights starting with Roseanne, and sometimes on the weekends. 2pm - 11pm is on the clock. |

I don't think there is any additional time cut off of episodes, just one less full episode (you only see five 1/2-hour shows over 3 hours instead of six 1/2-hour shows).

...on [W]TBS in the '70s, '80s, and '90s, he simply moved his schedules up five minutes {"Turner Time"}, so that his shows usually began at five minutes past the hour and half-hour [during 1986, for example, daily repeats of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" aired at 8:05am(et), followed by "BEWITCHED" at 8:35, then the next program at 9:05, and so on].
TV Land's strategy is different; at any given block of time, day or late-night (but NEVER in "Prime"), they will "stagger" the start times of each program so that they begin and end at an odd time. For instance, this is how TV Land's morning schedule during a five-hour block will look "today" {June 24th}, all times Eastern/Pacific: 9:00 ALL IN THE FAMILY 9:35 SANFORD AND SON 10:04 SANFORD AND SON 10:43 GUNSMOKE 11:50 GUNSMOKE 12:55 BONANZA (to 2) And the extra time is devoted to more commercials and promos, not "uncut" episodes. The idea, of course, is to keep viewers watching (and recording) those programs while other channels start "on time". Unless you thoroughly check their schedule beforehand, though, you could end up missing certain programs...

Ted Turner did this because it guaranteed TBS a separate listing for every show in TV Guide, rather then be buried amongst the mass of channel listings, for say 8:00am.
8:05 am--(TBS) Hazel-comedy. |

What TV Land is doing is totally different because for TBS the shows would always end at the right time of 5 after not like TV Land which is completely scattered all over the place and adds in thousands of commercials per program. |
