Thumbs down And The Biggest Box Office Bomb Predicted For The Summer of 2010 is......"Jonah Hex"

Speaking of WB, the studio has a film coming up on June 18 that’s already attracted some dire buzz. “Jonah Hex,” based on a comic book series, stars Josh Brolin as a gunslinger with a deformed face and a hunger for vengeance.

Early reports indicate audiences like Brolin’s performance very much — it’s just the rest of the movie they’re not so hot about, especially Megan Fox’s performance as a hooker with a heart of gold {“wooden” was one of the kinder adjectives used to describe Fox’s star turn) and the combination of sophisticated weaponry and Old West shootouts, which gave some viewers “Wild Wild West” flashbacks.

“Wild Wild West” starred, of course, Will Smith, and prior to “Jonah,” ticket-buyers will be faced with Smith’s son, Jaden, as “The Karate Kid” (coming June 11). In this loose remake of the 1984 hit, the young Smith plays a Detroiter who moves to China with his mom and seeks self-defense training after he’s run over by the Welcome Wagon. Enter Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who teaches the kid — uh, kung fu. But perhaps “The Kung Fu Kid” simply doesn’t have that magic ring to it.

Exclamation Jonah Hex Screenwriters Blame Bad Box Office on 'Karma'

Last April, Movieline interviewed Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor as they passed the Jonah Hex director’s baton to live-action neophyte Jimmy Hayward, and the outgoing duo couldn’t have been more charitable. “The great thing about Jonah Hex is that we love the script, we love the actors involved, we love the executives at Warner Bros involved, and we’re totally happy being a part of that project,” Taylor told us. “It doesn’t have to be, like, this whole ‘Mark and Brian thing.’ We put our stamp on it, they love the script, and it’s gonna be awesome.” Well, that was then.

Since last spring, of course, the project suffered one setback after another: Francis Lawrence replaced Hayward during reshoots, WB kept the film mostly out of sight for months, and then it was released this weekend to a yikes-yikes-yikes-inducing take of only $5 million. How much do Neveldine and Taylor — still credited for the film’s script — love those WB executives now? Let their Twitter tell the story in a most succinct way:

i'm thinkin the bomb squad should just start following Megan Fox around.

...and how much do you want to bet that the more the movie bombs, she starts dissing her directors, the co-stars, the lighting...
