Default On the subject of the 1973 Gleason/Carney photo:

I didn't want to hijack the "Question on 1973 Gleason/Carney Honeymooners" thread because of the different subject matter that I am going to talk about.

The picture was taken from the 1973 Special: "Women's Lib." On a side note, the horribly inaccurate Honeymooners Companion book that was written in 1978 and it had this picture and underneath it says: "Gleason, in one of the later Miami episodes."

Not surprisingly, that book doesn't make any mention of the episode entitled: "Women's Lib." In the Honeymooners 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2002, Kevin James says that the episode was "just discovered" in what is now the Paley Center for The Media.

If you are asking why that book didn't that book make have synposis for the episode since the special was made in 1973 and the book in 1978, I am guessing it is the same reason that they didn't make any synposis' of any of the Color Honeymooners episodes of the last season of the Color Honeymooners

Just by looking at Gleason and Carney in that pic, and the way it looked, I figured it had to be from 1973 or thereabouts, even before we all found out exactly where it came from, when it aired, and what the episode title was. By that yardstick, "one of the later Miami episodes" sounds so vague as to be useless as a guide. (A few Honeymooners- and Gleason-related articles and/or books from the past had misdated that picture as from 1966.) And yes, I did notice that if looking at The Honeymooners' Companion, it was as if there were no new installments between 1969 and The Second Honeymoon hour-long special of 1976. Sheesh!

However, the magazine that appeared in that "Women's Lib" episode (looked at by Alice and Trixie early on, and later with Ralph's eyes bulging at the mag as Norton was looking on - I actually saw it on the DVD) was a rearranged, retouched Cosmopolitan issue from September 1973, with the word "Plaything" put over the Cosmo logo on the cover and some of model Barbara Minty's cleavage covered up. The text as seen on the cover in that immortal picture, and their shape (in both the justified left and justified right sections), corresponded with what was in that Cosmo issue. (My question in this context had to do with what I just found out about that magazine.)

Being an IMDb user, I put this factoid in two separate areas: the page on Ms. Minty, and that on what they called The Jackie Gleason Special (1973) (TV). Watch the skies for when they take effect.
