Cool Dramas/Crime Shows Heading Over to Comic-Con July 22-25 *NBC to Show "Event" Pilot*

Dramas, Crime Shows Headed to Comic-Con
by Mike Moody
posted Jun 9th 2010

CBS is looking to gain some geek cred for its "Hawaii Five-0" redo at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

The show's summer Con panel is hoping to lure the fanboy crowd with appearances from stars like "Battlestar' Galactica" vet Grace Park and "Lost" alum Daniel Dae Kim.

A number of other cop shows and dramas --- like ABC's "Castle" and FX's "Sons of Anarchy" -- are invading the yearly Con for the first time as it seemingly grows from fanboy convention to mainstream marketing event, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Con crowd favorite Ron 'Hellboy' Perlman is scheduled to appear at the "Anarchy" panel with "Futurama's" Katey Sagal.

Former "Firefly" captain Nathan Fillion will topline the "Castle" Q&A.

Fox's "Bones" and USA's "Burn Notice" and "Psych" are all returning to the July event for panels and fan meet-ups.

USA has also scheduled a panel for "White Collar", which kicks off its second season later this summer.

SDCC runs from July 22-25 in San Diego.

It's so stupid.

I'm sorry. Shows like Glee, Psyche and Castle have no business being at a Comicon.

I know Castle star Nathan Fillon has a tremendous sci fi fan following, but that was for Firefly.

I also think this "mainstreaming" of the Comic-Cons are to blame for them going up insanely in prices. They have to accommodate all of these stars.

I didn't pay nearly as much as I do now at the cons in the 90s.

Unexpected TV Shows Will Court Fans at This Year's Comic-Con

Shows like FX's "Sons of Anarchy" and USA's "White Collar" may have zero roots in the comic-book industry, but that's not stopping TV producers from presenting them at the annual Comic-Con convention July 22-25 in San Diego.

Up to 40 broadcast and cable series that vary in scope from ABC's comedy-drama "Castle" starring Nathan Fillion to CBS' "Hawaii Five-O" reboot, and FX's sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are hoping to attract new followers (among the 125,000 people expected to attend).

"It's an incredible promotion and marketing machine where you are able to speak directly to the most hardcore fans," says 20th Century FOX TV Chairman Dana Walden...

who plans to send "Glee" and animated comedies, like "The Cleveland Show" and "American Dad", along with newcomer "Terra Nova" that will come out on FOX next year.

"They become a buzz factory. They blog about the shows and build them into the fabric of our lives."

"Though the convention's emphasis remains on the comic-book industry, Comic-Con has always made room for the "popular arts" throughout its 40 year run," says spokesman David Glanzer.

Frank Capra was a guest at an early convention, and Orson Welles' decidedly 'ungeeky' Othello was once screened.

"There may be programs that film and TV fans may enjoy, but our hope is that they'll also take part in some of the comics stuff," Glanzer says.

"If we can get someone in for "Glee" and they discover something else, than we have fulfilled our mission." - LR

NBC Planning Big "Event" at Comic-Con
by Nick Zaino
posted Jul 1st 2010

Television fans attending this year's Comic-Con now have one more preview to look forward to. According to Coming Soon, NBC will premiere the pilot episode of its new conspiracy thriller "The Event" later this month in San Diego, followed by a Q&A with the cast and producers.

The plot is difficult to decipher from the description on NBC's site and the official trailer, but we do know that it revolves around an attack on the U.S., which has something to do with a group of prisoners held in secret by the C.I.A., and a man whose fiancé disappears while the couple is on vacation.

The Comic-Con panel will include stars:

Jason Ritter
Blair Underwood
Laura Innes
Sarah Roemer
Zeljko Ivanek
Ian Anthony Dale

...as well as producers:
Evan Katz
Steve Stark
Jeffrey Reiner
Nick Wauters
Jim Wong
