New will surfaces in Gary Coleman saga

By Vince Horiuchi

The Salt Lake Tribune
Updated: 06/04/2010 05:34:51 PM MDT

A new will and testament outlining the last wishes of actor Gary Coleman has surfaced Friday, adding a new wrinkle to the saga over what to do with his remains and estate.

A "very old and dear friend" of the "Diff'rent Strokes" actor who knew him in the late 1990s was named the executor of the estate, said Salt Lake City attorney Kent B. Alderman, who was retained by the friend Thursday.

The attorney would not identify the executor except to say "he's just a very old friend that Gary trusted and asked that he carry out Gary's wishes."

The document, which was drafted in Los Angeles in 1999, long before the actor moved to Utah and married Shannon Price, will be filed with the 4th District Court in Provo as probate, Alderman said.

"We will proffer it to the court as the only known last will and testament of Gary Coleman, and if somebody has a more recent will then certainly they are welcome to come forward with what they have," Alderman said.

As a result of this latest development, Coleman's estranged parents, W.G. "Willie" and Edmonia Sue Coleman, have withdrawn their claim to take control of his estate and remains.

His funeral is still on hold.

Coleman died May 28 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo after suffering a brain injury from a fall at his Santaquin home.

Attorney: Gary Coleman has will from 1999

By BROCK VERGAKIS (AP) – 40 minutes ago

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah attorney said Friday a client of his has been named the executor of Gary Coleman's estate with the power to make funeral arrangements for the late actor.

Salt Lake City Attorney Kent Alderman said he has a will Coleman wrote in 1999 that he will take to a court sometime next week. Alderman wouldn't reveal details of the will, including the name of the executor, but said Coleman will not be buried this weekend.

"We will submit that for probate next week and find out if this is the last will. We believe it is. Nobody's come up with a more recent one," Alderman said.

Frederick Jackman, an attorney for Coleman's parents, said the person named in the will is Dion Mial, a friend and former manager of the former child TV star. A message left at a listing for Mial in Las Vegas was not immediately returned Friday.

Coleman's estranged parents had been seeking to take custody of his body and return it to his boyhood home in Illinois once it was discovered that Coleman had divorced wife Shannon Price in 2008.

Coleman's parents had been preparing to go to court, but Jackman said that's no longer the case because they had seen a copy of the will naming Mial as its beneficiary.

"The Colemans from the start simply wanted to do what he wanted to have done," Jackman said.

Shielia Erickson, a representative for Price, said she is grateful Coleman's parents have backed off.

"That's all we wanted to do is fill Gary's wishes," she said.

Coleman died May 28 Utah from a brain hemorrhage at age 4

Oh Yeah! There will be a book, a mini-series, a movie etc. People will continue to use Gary's name to make money as long as they can.

They just might. I haven't seen it either, but I think it's availible on DVD now.

Usually, when a famous celeb dies, his or her shows and movies are shown again, probably in a marathon.

i'm quite surprised that TVOne hasn't announced any plans to pay a tribute to Gary by airing his show and movies that he made.
