Carrie Fisher's "Wishful Drinking" Coming to HBO

Carrie Fisher has told her life story as a troubled Hollywood hellion in memoir, fiction, on stage, and on the big screen.

Now, she'll be presenting her story for the first time on television with "Wishful Drinking", a feature-length documentary based on her memoir-turned-one-woman show, tentatively slated to air on HBO in late 2010.




According to a press release, Fisher will tape her one-woman show in front of a live audience on June 25 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey.

The final product will include archival footage and interviews with friends and family.




Hollywood was always a part of Fisher's life.

She grew up in the spotlight as the daughter of singer/actor Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. Fisher was only 19 when Star Wars made her an instant megastar, and her success led her to excesses in drinking and drugs and took a toll on her personal relationships.




But Fisher doesn't drape herself in melancholy and remorse.

In the book Wishful Drinking, she looks for a comedic silver lining, revealing details about how she dealt with bi-polar disorder by giving names to her alter-egos and how she had to go bra-less in as Princess Leia (George Lucas couldn't reconcile underwear with his vision of the Star Wars universe).

Expect the same from the one-woman show, which has been well-received critically, and the documentary.
