Question Males and Match Game

Were there ever two male contestants on Match Game at one time? There were always two women, but were there ever two men?

Good point. How about Card Sharks? I think it also followed that tradition.

Smile It Happened on Card Sharks

Other than the current Pat Bullard version, two gentlemen did compete against each other on the CBS Card Sharks (Bob Eubanks) thrice, once on the Perry version (December 23, 1978-GSN aired that as part of the 12 Games of Christmas).

April 1988 had an old man named Preston (who was a ladies' man by the way) compete against a handsome Navy officer named Bob. They were on the week they had the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling playing that week. I remember seeing that on CBS when switching back & forth from NBC's Classic Concentration. And just recently, they aired those episodes on Game Show Network.

If we are talking about the 1970s version of "Match Game" (which, I suspect, is what Dawsongirl had in mind), I can't recall ever seeing two male contestants competing aginst each other.

I can't comment on the various other versions of the program which aired from time to time - I just could not bring myself to watch those programs on a regular basis.

When Game Show Network aired their "Sunday Night in Black and White" programming for 3 hours each Sunday evening, they would occasionally show the original 1960s version of "Match Game" (also hosted by Gene Rayburn). This show had a much different format - two teams, each consisting of one celebrity and three "regular people" would compete against one another. It was your typical, bland, 1960s-type game show.

I remember watching Match Game during the mid 70s, I loved that show. Bret Summers, and Charles Nelson Riley were really funny. Of course Gene Rayburn wasn't bad either.

Default I Can Now Vouch

Someone in my Yahoo! Group (The Game Show Witch), informed me that the impossible happened.

It happened on Match Game '77 (Ed Asner/Brett/CNR/Mary Ann Mobley/Richard/Patti) on January when two gentleman competed. The champion had won 8 games & $10,000.

Guess the contestant coordinators didn't want the viewers to be too suspicious & didn't want to be another Double Dare (1976).

I love watching the Match Game. I watch it everyday. I do remember there was two men competing with each other. In fact, I saw the game show when they had couple of men competing. I have that on tape. But I think they rarly did it. I think not enough women were trying out at that time of the taping. So they had to get two guys.
