Default Was Mike Evans the reason for the FALL and RISE and FALL of the Jeffersons?

Mike evans left the show in 75 and then the show ratings the next four seasons were

1975-76-#21
1976-77-#22
1977-78-#56
1978-79-#49

Then when he returned in the 1979-80 season, the Jeffersons finised the 1979-80 season at #7 right behind popular shows like Three's Company, Mash, and Dallas.

So was Mike Evans the real ATTRACTION of the show? Because the next two seasons the Jeffersons finished at #6. and #3 But when he leaves again in 1982 the show's ratings fall to #12 in the 1982-83 season, #19 in the 1983-84 season and below #30 the last seadon which was 84-85.

So does anyone besides me see the pattern of when Mike was on the show the ratings were up and when he was off the ratings were down.

I totally disagree. Lionel was not the star of this show, George was and the characters around him. I really don't think Mike Evans character was even needed to be honest.

Well it is a debatable topic because when he was gone the ratings went down and when he was on the ratings rose. Unless you can explain why the ratings fell when he was not on the show-lol

It may be debatable, but you know what I say is true.

I'm going to say the addition of Marcus and Alan Willis is what almost KILLED the show

Good thing Sherman Hemsley ran into Mike Evans in the summer of 79-lol

To me personally, it doesn't make sense that a bit player would be the reason for a show to decline.

Well let's dig nto this a little more, these were the shows the heffersons aired against during the OFF years

1976-Holmes and Yo-Yo/Emergency
1977-Starksy and Hutch/Satrday Night Movie
1978-Eight is Enough/Dick Clark Live Wednesday

So EIE was a top ten show in 78 so that can the reason for the declind in 78 but not sure why in 76 and 77

What happened? Did Sherman "ask" him to come back? LOL.

You bring up a very good point Solomon but then again it could be just pure coincidence.

Yes in the Book "The Jeffersons", it mentioned that Sherman ran into Mike Evans duriing the summer of 79 which is why he rejoined the cast in the 1979-80 season.

I did not realize the ratings dropped that drastically during sea.sons four and five. It could have been canceled easily since it ranked what it did out of 70 shows. I wonder if there was a big deal made about Mike's return and people tuning in to see him along with the "I'm pregnant" storyline? Hmmm...

Think about it, if you were the age you are now in 79 and was following the jeffersons since season 1, wouldn't you have been excited to see season 6 because of the return of Mike evans?
