Heart Helen Wagner's last ATWT appearance to air Tuesday, 6/1

This according to the most recent issue of Soap Opera Digest (dated 6/8/10). There is also a beautiful 5-page tribute to Ms. Wagner in the issue, with memories from her co-stars.

I'm sure they are in the stages of planning an on-air memorial to Helen and her character, Nancy. So, so sad - especially since the show is dying as well.

I've heard that the ATWT cast is and has pretty much always been tight-knit (plus you've had real life marriages, i.e. Jon Hensley/Kelley Menighan and Maura West/Scott DeFreitas). They've had so much to go through, especially in the past 4 years or so. There was the suicide of Ben Hendrickson (Hal), the cancer diagnosis of Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara), and the alleged affair of Terri Colombino (Katie) and Austin Peck (Brad) (both married in real life and I believe both have split from their real-life spouses), to name a few. Then you get word that the show is cancelled, and there's the death of the show's matriarch, who had been on the show since day one and uttered the show's first words. I had so hoped she'd be able to say the last words as ATWT fades to black.

But maybe she still will be able to utter the show's last words in a way (i.e. flashback). We'll have to wait and see.

This show shouldnt even be cancelled in the first place, but I guess there is nothing we can do about that now.

I doubt it. I just hope that the cast and crew are able to find work soon.

No, this would be the last episode that she'd taped. I think she was just last seen onscreen when Julianne Moore guested.

I was so hoping for the very same thing. I hope the producers of the show find a way to give Nancy/Helen the very last words on the show...

Great minds think alike. If they don't do that, then I say give the last words to her on-screen son, Don Hastings (Bob).

This certainly makes me nostalgic and sad.

I'll try to remember to throw a tape in that day. I'll be thinking of my mom a lot too.

Helen Wagner.
