Default Please Keep Me In Your Thoughts...

I think I may have diabetes now. Left a message with my Dr's office to schedule an appointment next week and let them know my symptoms.

All of a sudden this week I've been having this uncontrollable thirst and of course then urinating frequently. At times it is almost as though someone has attached a salt lick to my tongue. My last to blood tests had elevated A1C levels (although the other markers for diagnosing diabetes-fasting glucose and sugar in the urine were fine). That was in October. Like a dope I haven't been watching what I eat (I was very bad around the holidays) although lately I haven't really been eating badly. I'm also 20-25 lbs overweight and have a pear shape. Diabetes also runs in my family and I'm in my 50s. While I certainly don't want to jump the gun the above symptom is a classic one. I'm hoping for the best AND THIS TIME I'm going to be vigilant and TAKE GOOD CARE of myself. I'm praying that diet, losing the weight, and exercise will be all I need - and maybe only one med.

I know some of you have shared you have Diabetes, can I pm you or feel free to share stuff with me. I don't want to turn this into a long thread all about me but I want to talk to others who have this. I may need to talk about this a lot, depending on what I find out next week.

I'm ashamed to say that I've been lazy about this - and esp. since I got 2 wake up calls. One of the things I'm going to have to do is be VIGILANT and unyeilding about being around situations where sweets are present. Cause when I'm at parties I just shovel things into my mouth. And being at one is what started my backslide. Sorry to be such a downer but I need to reach out for help.

Thanks everyone.

God bless you, Rich - I hope that you don't have diabetes. But if you do, you can always go to Charles and Jude for support because they have both been frank here about their battles with diabetes. Please keep us posted!!!

Diabetes runs in my mother's side of the family, so I have to watch myself, too. Rich, I will be praying for you as well.

Being a type 2, I can say I understand your concern. It is a devestating diagnosis because you do have to change your life, especially your relationship with food. I mean, you can have whatever you want, just in small portions, I oughta talk I eat what I want and don't care . All I can say is just watch it, excercise and don't feel bad when you have a bad reading or day because it's gonna happen.

You're in my prayers Rich. I'm borderline type 2 diabetic, which means I'm at high risk for becoming a type 2 diabetic. If I can get my weight down and get myself healthy, I can avoid it, so my doctor is helping me work on that with a special diet and exercise plan.

You're in my thoughts and prayers Rich. I actually thought that I might have had it a couple years ago. Thank God I didn't. You just hang it there buddy and I'll keep good thoughts for you.

Take care of yourself, and don't be afraid to reach out for help if you need it.

I do not have diabetes but the doctor told me a couple years ago to start watching my cholesterol level. I started walking (almost) every day and really paying attention to what I ate and within a year my level had dropped 22 points. Now the doctor says I'm doing great.

My point is that sometimes just a moderate adjustment can do wonders. I'm sure you will do what you need to do to stay healthy but as others have said, everyone is human and we have to love ourselves while trying to change.

Be well!!

My hubby has it and he goes through his changes. He gets into a frenzy every now and then eating powered donuts, chocolate, etc.

On the plus side he's lost weight and he doesn't need the injection which is a good thing.

Keep your chin up we're rooting for you here at SO.

Rich, you'll absolutely be in my thoughts and prayers. It's quite possible that you don't have diabetes. It would be great if this was just a wake-up call. My husband is a diabetic, Type 2. He doesn't need insulin; just pills for now. I'm the cook in the house. I do my best. Fortunately, we both like fresh fruits and vegetables. He doesn't have the sweet tooth that I have, and that I know you have too.

I know I speak for everyone here when I say that you're one of Sitcom's most beloved and well-respected members. We'll be here for you every step of the way.
