TV Andy Richter Nearing Deal to Host "Pyramid" Reboot

Andy Richter Nearing Deal to Host "Pyramid" Reboot
by Allison Waldman
posted May 28th 2010

According to the LA Times, funnyman Andy Richter is finalizing a deal to host an updated version of the classic game show "Pyramid".

CBS is expected to slot the reboot in daytime, possibly in October after "As the World Turns" ends its run.

This is the latest attempt by CBS to resurrect the long-running series.

Two pilots were previously shot -- one with Dean McCain and another with Tim Vincent -- but failed to capture the spirit of the original series.

CBS also tried in vain to entice "Deal or No Deal's" Howie Mandel, as well as Emmy-winning actor Brad Garrett.

CBS has yet to announce if it will pick up "Pyramid".

If it does, Richter will be pulling double-duty, as Conan O'Brien's new late-night talk show is set to kick off Nov. 8 on TBS.

I think it would be a good idea, and hope they keep it with the ORIGINAL format, and at a half-hour.An hour would be WAAAY too long(too many commercials). And I sure hope they keep it simple-the way the ORIGINAL was.

What happened to the classic looking game show hosts. Bob Barker, Chuck Woolery, Bert Convey, Allen Ludden etc...?
Now it seems like any fat --goofy looking person can host a game show and yes I am talking about you Drew Carey and Howie Mandel

The ONLY one today that fits into the "old-school"mode of Game Show Hosts of Yesteryear,(like Bob Barker,Chuck Woolery, the late Allen Ludden, the late Bert Convy,et al)is John 0'Hurley of "Family Feud",and now HE's not going to be on the "Feud"as host coming this fall.Idea:Why don't they hire former contestants of game shows (case in point:The host of the very short-lived ABC 1990 game show "Monopoly"was a former "Jeopardy"contestant.)to host. They'd be a darn sight better than the hosts they have on now:Wayne Brady(ugh),Howie Mandel,Drew Carey(although Mandel and Carey aren't TOO bad),Jeff Foxworthy and --coming soon to "Family Feud",Steve Harvey.Who next:Roseanne Barr ?

The first one was a typo, I believe they meant to say Dean Cain who was in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman".

Tim Vincent is a reporter on "Access Hollywood" and has hosted the pilot of the "Chain Reaction" revival and briefly took over for Meredith on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" for a week.

If "Dancing With the Stars"should suddenly and inexplicably end,(which is very doubtful)Tom Bergeron, who also hosts that, and based on his stint as guest host on the Daytime version of "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire"would be a darn good choice.
