Oh No Mom Abandons Kids to Go Tanning

http://www.fox8.com/news/wjw-news-mo...,5123725.story

Police have arrested a mother of two for allegedly locking her 1 and 2-year-old children up in separate rooms so she could go tanning.

Police say Georgia Castleman, 27, of Milton, Vermont, was charged with child abandonment and reckless endangerment after police found her small children alone, crying in dark rooms at the family's home.

According to police, an anonymous tip caller let them know there were children alone in the house. When they arrived at the home police say they found the children crying in the dark rooms. Police estimated the children were alone for about 1 1/2 hours before officers arrived.

After five hours, police say they were able to locate Castleman, who claimed she left to go tanning and collect a $60 debt.

Castleman faces up top 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

In her defense, her tan looks great. Being sun-kissed will add to her "street cred" in prison.

Oh No

It's strange that you need a license to drive, hunt, or fish but anyone can have a child. Sometimes I wish there was some sort of screening process for people to become parents so situations like this one and the one yesterday where the mother used her kids to steal from a department store could be avoided.

Horrible. Beyond the obvious abandonment issue, is this the type of value she wants to impart to her children, that appearance (and being quick fried under glass isn't my idea of attractive anyway, but many people seem to think it is) is more important than nurturing your own kids?

(shakes head, watches calming 'funny animal' videos to calm down)...

So she basically abandoned her kids to not only go tanning, but to collect a $60 debt as well? She's mixed up in more ways than one, since she now has a $10,000 fine, not that that's more important than the kids.

Unfit.

You know, being super pale used to be considered beautiful way back in the day because if you were dark skinned or sun kissed, that meant that you were working in fields all day and obviously didn't have enough money for servants. If you were pale, it meant that you didn't have to bother with work because you had a ton of money.

Yup! Then again, I have very fair skin and blue eyes. I don't tan - I fry. Plus, I never did understand the appeal of tanning beds - or tanning lotion, for that matter. I certainly don't think it's something worth ditching your kids for.

Obviously everyone likes what they like, but to me, the sight of leathery skin is not appealing in any way, on me or anyone else. The minute I see it all I think of is melanoma.

Oh, I agree with that 100%!! My sister used to like to go tanning before she got married and had kids. I could never figure out why.
