Default Larry Bryggman Returns To ATWT

Larry Bryggman to return before ATWT ends

With time winding down, As the World Turns fans have a list of actors that they'd like to see return to the show before it goes dark forever. One of those actors, Larry Bryggman, will be back this summer to reprise the role of John Dixon. Bryggman was last seen on-screen in 2004.

In a move that is sure to please longtime viewers, As the World Turns has invited Larry Bryggman (John Dixon) to reprise his popular role one last time before the show ends in September.

In 2004, seemingly without warning, Bryggman, a two-time Daytime Emmy winner, was released after having worked for nearly four decades with the show. No official reason was given at the time, though it was widely believed that money played into the decision. Show sources told soapcentral.com at the time that Bryggman had been asked to drop to recurring status. Bryggman refused.

"We appreciate the 35 years that Larry has dedicated to As the World Turns," the show's executive producer, Chris Goutman, said in an official statement at the time. "A consummate professional, [h]is portrayal of Dr. John Dixon has been masterful and mesmerizing. We're sorry to see him go."

Bryggman joined the cast of As the World Turns in 1969. He made his final appearance on December 14, 2004. Since that time, the character has seldom -- if ever -- been referred to on-canvas.

Bryggman's return is slated for just a single episode. An airdate for that episode has not yet been announced.

Just one episode

Bryggman was crucial to ATWT, and was one of soap's notorious villians. With this show going off the air, they should have had him to appear more than just a day.

Some of ATWT's greatest moments involve John Dixon.

You're right, he really deserves more than one episode. And is there anyone left in Oakdale who even will remember John?? (I'm betting most of his family are now being played by people he won't recognize, lol).

I'm happy to hear of Larry's return to the show... but I certainly wish it was for more than one episode, unless of course he will only be appearing in the final episode of the show.

Well, things can certainly change - maybe his run will be extended. I also wish they'd bring back Scott DeFreitas (Larry's on-screen son). It can't be too hard to get him back - his wife is Maura West (Carly), after all!!

Other than Margo Hughes none of John Dixon's family is left. Well there is Dusty, John was his guardian at one time.

Well, several of his contemporaries are still around. Two of his ex-wives (Kim and Barbara), an ex-girlfriend (Lisa), and rival (Dr. Bob). It'll be interesting to see what develops.

While they are at it ATWT should bring back John Dixon's main rival James Stenback back for one more round.

I sure hope so! If that happens, I hope his first line is:

"Hello, Barbara."

I am thrilled that Larry Brygmann's return has been more than one day. As I stated above his character John Dixon is one of the most important characters of the show.

I just wish that some other past favorites could've been brought back as the show came to a close - like Scott DeFreitas (Andy Dixon), Anthony Herrera (James Stenbeck), Pat Bruder (Ellen Stewart) and Rosemary Prinz (Penny Hughes). But at least they did get Larry Bryggman - that's something.

Yeah it would have been nice if they brought back more characters from the past. I miss ATWT.
