One of the enjoyable facets of "Law & Order" is spotting well-known New York theater actors slipping into a television role. But now that the show is wrapping up its final season on NBC, another network program is stepping up to fill the void of helping Broadway veterans add TV credits to their resumes: CBS' "The Good Wife," reports the New York Times.
As Julianna Margulies' character returns to practicing law, the show is chock full of crime scenes and courtrooms, leading to several Tony Award winners including Dick Latessa and Joanna Gleason moonlighting as judges. Tovah Feldshuh, another Tony winner who also had a recurring role as defense attorney Danielle Melnick on "L&O", has appeared in the show's jury, while Craig Bierko, who is a Tony nominee and has also had parts on "Sex and the City" and "Boston Legal," played a Glenn Beck-like character. But the show had to struggle during its first few episode to convince some theater actors to come to the program. “But it started to pop around the time we used Martha Plimpton in a very cynical lawyer role. In many ways she’s a paradigm for what we want to see with these guest actors — someone who really has depth even if they’re doing it comedically," said the show's co-creator Robert King. http://www.tvweek.com/blogs/tvbizwire/ |

A friend of mine has been on a bunch of episodes of L&O as an extra. He was pissed when he heard the show was cancelled.
I hope Good Wife is looking for new background people. |
