Do you think that "Bewitched"was A)a 1960'sTV series(by that,I mean do you think it fit in with the OTHER 1960's comedies with supernatural overtones-"The Addams Family","The Flying Nun","The Munsters","My Favorite Martian","I Dream of Jeannie",et.al,),and should be remembered as such or B)A 1960's series that had a hard time(ratings wise)fitting in with the comedies of the 1970's? My choice would be A.How about the rest of you?Feel free to post.

And I forgot to add:The traditional 1960's comedies like "My Three Sons","The Dick Van Dyke Show",and the latter years of "The Donna Reed Show","The Andy Griffith Show".Do you think it would fit in with these comedies? My answer is still A.How about the rest of you?Once again, feel free to post.

I think Bewitched is in a class of its own. I don't see any other sit-com (Including I Dream of Jeannie) comparing to it. It was just unique, clever, and pure genious! By the '70's, it had run its course, so it doesn't matter that it couldn't compete in the new decade.

Bewitched is a 1960's TV show that is a classic and a reminder of how good TV was at that time, and how it sucks now.

I'd say A as well and ofall the 60s with "supernatural overtones" this was BY FAR my favorite. Nothing picks me up and relaxes me like watching a few Bewitched episodes.

I am going to say D. all of the above.
It definitely had the supernatural thing going for it like Jeannie, the Munsters and the Flying Nun. It was also a domestic situation comedy. Darrin and Sam had the same problems as the Stones and the Petries. Sam just had the advantage of using witchcraft to get out of sticky situations (or to get into them further). Plus, 'Bewitched' never really fit into the 70's TV world of Mary Richards and Edith Bunker, because the humor in those shows was based more on reality. 'Bewitched' is a hard show to pigeon hole, which is why it is so good. |
