TV WTF!? "The Big Bang Theory" Moving to Thursdays?!

CBS will launch a comedy block with "Big Bang Theory" on Thursdays, will move veteran procedural "CSI: NY" to Fridays and is shifting "Survivor" to Wednesdays, among other moves.

Executives dubbed the strategy "aggressive stability."

"There are two ways you can schedule," said CBS scheduling chief Kelly Kahl. "You can fill holes, or you can give your new shows a fighting chance with a lead in."

CBS clearly opted for the latter. Chuck Lorre's latest comedy "Mike & Molly" will get a powerhouse lead-in from "Two and a Half Men" on Mondays. The network's top-rated comedy in the adult demo, "The Big Bang Theory," has been moved to 8 p.m. on Thursday to fuel new William Shatner comedy "$#*! My Dad Says" (which will be promoted verbally on air as "Bleep My Dad Says"). Legal drama "Defenders" has "Criminals Minds" as an opener on Wednesdays. And family cop drama "Blue Bloods" starring Tom Selleck -- though airing in a tough slot on Fridays at 10 p.m. -- will have "CSI: NY" as an opening act.

Seriously, its going to be the nerd's Sophia's choice, hope you have a DVR where you can watch one and tape the other. It would have been better to send HIMYM to 9:00pm on Monday, but Charlie's new contract made that impossible or starting at 9:00 pm on Thursday. Either way, going head to head with Bones and NBC's comedies is going to be rough and the show needs help. I would have moved 2 1/2 Men to Thursday to justify the money for Charlie. Bad move.

Wow, moving it to Thursday, is going to hurt the show, imo.

Ratings might fall a little because it'll be on at 8 but it has no competition. The only hit show in that timeslot is Bones and it's not nearly as popular as it used to be. On Monday, BBT had to face Dancing With the Stars and it did very well.

Cool

I think BBT is popular enough that it's fans will follow it to whatever night it's on.

I think the 8:00 time slot is more a problem then moving to Thursdays. The ratings are lower at 8:00 than 9:30. The ratings should still be good, but drop some. How much I am not sure.

Sorry Sonny I have to disagree, Bones does great ratings, so I think it will be some serious competition for TBBT

I watch Bones too. It's always been a solid performer but it's never been as hot as BBT has been this last season. I think they both can survive there. Community is the show that's really going to get hurt in all this. Remember also that BBT is taking over Survivor's time slot so it's not going into a slot that CBS was having trouble with.

Bones does not do great ratings. The only time it consistently broke a 3.0 in the 18-49 demo was when Survivor was on its midseason break. Otherwise, it averages in the uppers 2's in the demo. With BBT in the time slot it will be in the mid 2's and below 10 million viewers.

FYI, here is Bones ratings for the last two months of the season :

04.01.10 8.68 million 2.4/8
04.08.10 9.99 million 2.8/9
04.15.10 9.92 million 2.9/9
04.22.10 9.01 million 2.5/8
04.29.10 9.28 million 2.6/8
05.06.10 9.05 million 2.5/8
05.13.10 9.20 million 2.6/8
05.20.10(SF) 9.35 million 2.8/10

The first column is the total viewers and the second column is the all important 18-49 rating. That is nothing great. BBT had double the 18-49 rating that Bones had. With BBT in the time slot Bones will be in the mid to lower 2's. Not very good.
