GH's Carolyn Hennesy "Surprised" By Best Supporting Actress Nomination
Carolyn Hennesy 'Surprised' by Daytime Emmy Nomination
by Michael Maloney posted May 12th 2010 It turns out moonlighting can pay off. Carolyn Hennesy's been juggling two gigs for the past year -- scene-stealing Barb on "Cougar Town" and savvy, sexy defense lawyer Diane on "General Hospital". The latter has scored her a Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress. "I still think it's all a dream," Hennesy told TV Squad this morning. "It's all surreal. It hasn't hit me yet. It simply hasn't!" Hennesy made the list last year -- alas, it was a list of 'overlooked' deserving stars who weren't given a nod. This year, however, the actress' performing peers, who are members of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, got it right. "No one is more surprised than me," continues Hennesy, who gives credit for her nom to the "GH" scribes who've created such a vibrant character. She says her nomination is "a real testament to the faith that the writers have in the diversity that the audience wants to see. The bread and butter of soap operas is all the 'sturm and drang' and angst, but viewers are willing to accept some comic relief now. Peers value that, too. That means everything." There's only one round of voting so the episode that got Hennesy the nod also determines whether or not she'll take home the gold on Sun., Jun. 27, when the Daytime Emmys are handed out on CBS. The awards show will be held at the Las Vegas Hilton. "All I know is that I have to diet and buy a gown," she quips. "I'll place a bet on me. That's the big gamble." Hennesy submitted the Thanksgiving episode from 2009 in which Diane has a heartfelt talk with young Molly about her mother's love life. Later, hilarity ensued when Diane had a love scene with her bodyguard beau Max after mistakenly assuming he was suffering from erectile dysfunction. "It had everything," she says. The only disappointment for Hennesy was that the "GH" writers (who won last year) didn't get a nod this year. "It's just criminal," the TV lawyer says. "I should defend them!" http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/05/12/ca...my-nomination/ |
