Default 9 to 5 TV Series

Reposted from old boards:

Has anyone seen the 9 to 5 Tv series based on the hit comedy? It ran from 1980-1982 and then from 1986-1988. I think that Jeffrey Tambor and Sally Struthers were on it.

I remember it, I think it was a really bad series.

I have never seen this series but did a guide on it for epguides.com that is not yet online. I believe the series had about 85 episodes.

9 TO 5 IS ONE OF THE WORST SITCOMS IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION,IT WAS ON MY 10 WORST SITCOMS OF ALL TIME LIST.

Posted by TV Guy:

This show really has a convoluted production history. The first season was a six-episode tryout in the spring of 1982. It featured Rita Moreno, Valerie Curtin, and Rachel Dennison
(Dolly Parton's sister) as the secretaries, and Jeffrey Tambor as the boss, Mr. Hart. When it returned in the fall of 1982, Peter Bonerz ("The Bob Newhart Show") replaced Tambor as Mr. Hart. Jean Marsh from "Upstairs, Downstairs" played the office manager. These episodes were actually pretty good.

The show was renewed for a third season in the fall of 1983, but with a lot of changes. James Komack ("Welcome Back Kotter") came aboard to produce, and Valerie Curtin was dropped, replaced by Leah Ayres as a new character. The show was now shot on videotape (as opposed to film from the first two seasons), and the secretaries were now roommates as well as coworkers. ABC cancelled this version after just a few new
episodes.

The show came back one more time, in syndication in the fall of 1986. Rita Moreno, Peter Bonerz, Jean Marsh, and Leah Ayres didn't return. Valerie Curtin rejoined the cast. Sally Struthers came aboard as a new character, with Edward Winter (Col. Flagg on "M*A*S*H") as the boss (not Mr. Hart). This version lasted two seasons.

I like Jeffry Tambor, he's on Arrested Development now. The movie 9 to 5 was better.

I didn't think the show was that bad. I kind of liked it.

9-5 is featured in this ABC promo from the 1982-1983 season.

I've never actually seen the show before. I'm sort of interested.

Hard to believe the show faltered considering it was in the prized Tuesday night slot with Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Three's Company. However, this was the '82-'83 season, so it would be safe to assume that these shows, while still holding considerable audiences, were WELL past their primes.

You would not only be safe in assuming that, but you would be correct. All of those shows had lost key original cast members and were past their sell-by-date...IMO.

I mainly watched the show because it came on after Three's Company and there was nothing else on. lol When it got moved to Thursdays with all the changes I stopped watching. The show was not great but it was mildly amusing. The girls were attractive. I think that was the most appealing part of the show. lol

I have every one of these shows on 16mm the colours still look ok. But with kodak film witch was cheap stuff they are starting to turn red. They look good and have the place ad's here and place local update here. prints I got where never ran or projected on any local tv station they where back up prints. In case a station screwed up there print.

The shows are not that bad but like the 80's not that good.

Take the pilot it is total in line with the movie to a point. they should put these on dvd but also wonder if they still have the master prints of these shows. If not they would have to do a lot of restoring the old films.

The prints I got do not have a laugh track on them. So that would be another thing for a dvd release what set would they use. I like it with out the laugh track myself.

I’ve seen a handful of episodes. None were funny. Dennison couldn’t act to save her life and Struthers I have never cared for at all.

The actual place the women worked at kept changing too as I recall.
