Well Nancy Walker was born in 1922 and Valerie Harper in 1939, so if they were playing their actual ages, she would have been 16 when Rhoda was born. I think Ida was meant to be older. Actually on The Mary Tyler Moore Show when her character was first introduced, she seemed older, on Rhoda, they gradually made her more youthful looking.

Another actor who appeared much older than he was was Redd Foxx. He was still in his late 40s when he started playing Fred Sanford. He died in 1991 at the age of 68.

Well how about Abe Vigoda as Fish? He seemed elderly way back in the '70's and he's still around!

Funnily enough in the first season episode of "Rhoda","Chest Pains",Ida gives her age as 52,which would have been Nancy Walker's age, then.

In the episode "The Shower",Rhoda gives her age as 33,so I make it it Rhoda was born in 1941.

Rhoda states what year she was born in the first season opening credits.

Yes you're right Mark,december 1941.

I agree with you that Ida looked younger on Rhoda than she did on MTMS.
