Default Betty White Is a Winner!

SNL tonight was great! The whole show was funny. Usually the opening monologue is silly, and the skits during the last 45 minutes are lame. But not tonight! The entire 90 minutes was hilarious. If I'm not mistaken, Betty was in every skit. They gave her solid material that was tailor made for her, and she knocked it out of the park. She hasn't lost her skill and timing at all! It was also great seeing all those SNL alums.

Yeah,it was pretty good, and a lot different than most SNL's.Overall,I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

And that last skit in which she was with that befuddled census taker was something Rose Nylund of "The Golden Girls"would do--without the St.Olaf Story,of course. And that bit at the end when she kissed that black singer was a twist, and very unexpected, and funny.A definite touch of class for "SNL".

I don't ever remember laughing at an opening monologue on SNL, and I definitely don't remember laughing at the final skit of the evening (usually I have to turn off the show after the Weekend Update segment because it goes downhillfast after that), but tonight I laughed at both . . . and at everything in between!

Betty was absolutely brilliant last night on SNL! She knocked the opening monologue out of the park, which is hard to do for most stars! I loved the "Delicious Dish" radio show about Betty's muffins, and it was wonderful to see Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon return! Betty does raunch with such style! I was thrilled to see so many former female cast members return, just to honor Betty hosting the show! Way to go, Betty!!! So very proud of you!

Betty is ratings gold for SNL

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/05/09...s-nascar/50881

The Betty White hosted episode of Saturday Night Live scored a preliminary 8.8 household rating in the 56 largest metered markets, and a preliminary 5.1 rating with adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. Those were the best SNL numbers since the episode on November 1 2008 scored a preliminary 9.0 household rating in the 56 metered markets.

That was the funniest SNL in recent memory. Betty just ROCKS. Next time, SNL should get Rue to host!!!

I missed the first few minutes of it, but thakfully, watched some of her monoluge on the MSN homepage a few minutes ago. I loved how she called Facebook a big waste of time and in her day poking was something you did on a hayride.
Great to see, too, the ratings did so great. I watched it and I seldom (if ever) watch SNL.

Last night had an actual monologue -- just the host telling jokes and talking to the audience. Most of the "monologues" on SNL are really skits, with cast members playing audience members, or cast members joining in and/or doing a musical number with the host.

Betty White is old school and I mean that in the nicest way, because she can go out in front of a live audience (at 88, no less) and hit her monologue right out of the park without looking like she's reading the cue cards.

It must be very gratifying to have this kind of career revival and success so late in life -- especially after you've been in the business for over 60 years!

Think about it! That woman is 88 YEARS OLD, and she was in every sketch, including weekend update, on a 90 minute live television show, after flying from Los Angeles to New York, and rehearsing all week! Talk about never slowing down!!!!!!

I was thinking about that last night. She's got some amazing stamina. And obviously she's not suffering dementia. And no senior moments from her last night! She delivered every line with perfection. She's absolutely remarkable.

Isn't it unusual for a guest host to appear in every skit? They certainly got their money's worth from her, putting her in all of them. And there are actually two additional skits that she was in that were not included in the actual broadcast last night. One is a Bronx Beat skit and the other is a Debbie Downer. They're both posted on nbc.com. I'm a little confused by them, though, as they were taped in front of the studio audience. When would they have been performed, right after the regular show (which would have been after 1:00 AM)?

(To ZKS: Thanks for posting about the ratings. It's terrific she drew such a big audience, and viewers were not disappointed!)

Never fear. Go to this link and you'll find most (if not all) of the skits from last night posted there. And in a couple weeks, they will put up there entire show for you to watch.
