"Whatever credit Rick Nelson gets its not enough"-Sam Philips

I so agree, a great actor and a rock and roll icon whom I put up there with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the other.

I am not a gay man but Rick Nelson was f**king hot.

You are not forgotten.

Cheers and Happy birthday

I was just watching a season 1 episode and listening to a couple radio episodes last week and thinking it's hard to believe that little boy would have been 70 years old May 8th.

Happy Birthday Ricky!

He was an incredibly handsome guy. From the 2 bios a read of Rick, his love life was a heterosexual's man dream come true. Women threw themselves at him - and I mean THREW - naked women coming up to him and giving him a hotel key, a stewardness who did it with him in a galley, cheerleaders, models...you name it he had it. But there was a nice side to his voracious sxl appetite - often he would have a sea of women to choose from and he would choose someone from the middle - he said when he did they were so appreciative. He also had good manners, was kind to his fans, was chivalrous - no wonder women threw themselves all over him.

That was from that Idol For A Generation book wasn't it?
Yeah...well, that author seemed to be trying to make Ricky look like a slutty, passive wimp.

Ricky is remembered for SO much more than his trysts, I would think.

I can't remember which bio off hand (I read two of them). Both pretty much said the same thing. I don't think Rick came off as slutty, passive or wimpy in either of them - at least to me. He had his flaws but so what. We all do. He had so many good things going for him-good looks, charm, nice to his fans, good to his kids, devoted to his music, high integrity to his craft that if he was hyper-active sxlly I don't hold it against him. He was good looking and had plenty of opportunities. And also - his marriage was on the rocks for many years and Kris wasn't a nun by any means. I think his biggest flaw was that he was bad with $ and unlucky in marriage (although I don't think the second is really a flaw I suppose). Kris was supposed to have been a Class A b**ch.

So I guess in the end I agree with you. Consider some of the crum-bums out there in the celeb world he still looks mighty fine to me! I'll probably go back to the Performing Arts Library & look up the authors of the bios. I believe one was a guy named Basche.

I'd throw myself at Rick. Just to look at him. I wish I were as half as handsome as he is.

I read that book, too, and got the same impression as you did. Seemed like the author went out of his way to make Rick look as bad as possible. I much preferred John Stafford's The Ricky Nelson Story: the Hollywood Hillbilly. Philip Bashe's bio Travelin' Man, Teenage Idol was pretty good, too. People will believe what they wanna believe, but the faults Rick had are offset by his many good qualities. Just one example: when Jerry Fuller, Glen Campbell and others were working with Rick in the early 60's, Rick would often let the sessions run long so these guys could make a bit more money, none of them were exactly rolling in the dough, so to speak. I've read Campbell's bio, and he was barely getting by financially when he started in the biz. He's never had a bad word to say about Rick, loved working with him, playing guitar and singing harmony.
