TV The CW Brings Back "Moonlight" - Airing Reruns Starting June 3rd

CW Resurrects "Moonlight" (Well, Sort of)
by Andrew Scott
posted May 6th 2010

Good news for "Moonlight" fans still reeling over its cancellation:

According to the Live Feed, The CW has officially resurrected the series and will pair it with encore episodes of "The Vampire Diaries", beginning Jun. 3.

But don't get too excited: The network will simply air rereuns of the vampire drama series, which starred Alex O'Loughlin as an immortal detective.

The show began a close relationship between O'Loughlin and the network, and led to this season's canceled medical drama "Three Rivers" and the upcoming "Hawaii Five-O" reboot.

"Moonlight", which premiered in 2007, developed a cult audience in its first and only season on CBS, though it never quite garnered enough numbers to warrant a second season.

CBS did make attempts to save the show, including an additional four-episode order, but low ratings eventually forced the network to pull the plug.

I have the complete series on DVD. Still, that is GREAT news for fans--and
perfect scheduling it back-to-back with The Vampire Diaries.

I liked this show, I saw it during the original run on CBS. In my opinion it is way better than "The Vampire Diaries".

Maybe if the show started a little bit later it probably would have had a longer run. It aired just a little bit before the "vampire craze" when Twilight first premiered and popular vamp shows like "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries" came about.

I also feel for Alex O'Loughlin... it seems that he can't catch a break on the small and big screen as of late. His shows get canned and his movies are not big audience grabbers.

Moonlight was indeed a little bit ahead of its time. I really liked the
relationship between Mick St. John and Beth Turner. Ros Koslow (Beauty
and the Beast
)was one of the executive producers. Alex O'Loughlin and
Sophia Myles--like Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton--had a great on-screen
chemistry. Both shows enjoyed a cult following but never really caught on
with mainstream audiences. Like you said, though, if the series had debuted
about a year or so later (when vampires started dominating the landscape on
both the large and small screens), it would have been a different story.

I don't know if you are familiar with it but there was another short-lived vamp. show that aired in 2007 that also missed the "vamp. craze"; the Canadian show "Blood Ties".

It lasted a little longer than "Moonlight"; it got picked up for a second season but ended shortly after that.
