What's half of a "squeakquel?"

The family that owns rights to Alvin and the Chipmunks are suing 20th Century Fox, claiming it is owed "half of all profits" from last year's 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,' notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Bagdasarian Prods. and writer Janice Karman -- wife of the late creator's son -- claim that Fox took substantial portions of a screenplay prepared for the sequel by Karman without granting her compensation or credit.

According to Boxofficemojo.com, 'Squeakquel' has grossed nearly $443 million worldwide; half of that would be a sizable settlement.

In a statement, Fox said, "the Bagdasarians' claims are completely without merit. We look forward to resolving our differences and, in the meantime, we are continuing to move forward with this franchise."

Ross Bagdasarian Jr., whose father -- under the name David Seville -- created the talking 'munks the the 1950s, has filed several lawsuits over the past 10 years in an attempt to control his father's creations.

Karman has served as voice talent, producer and writer on several 'Chipmunk' projects. In the suit, she is seeking compensation and a co-writer credit for the 'Squeakquel' script, which she claims is largely based on the one she submitted to Fox.

The lawsuit claims causes of action for copyright infringement, unjust enrichment, breach of contract and "declaration of co-ownership and accounting for profits."

ross bagdasarian jr and janice karman should sue fox for making the chipmunks look so awful in the movies! or is that their fault?
