Default Predict the Fall Schedule: ABC

Hello All -

Here's a thread to predict the fall schedule for ABC!

All potential pilots can be found on www.thefutoncritic.com and some recent buzz about certain pilots can be found here: http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/prim...arly-hot-list/ or here: http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.co...s-report-.html

Feel free to update this all the way until the upfronts!!

Here's my prediction:

Mondays
8:00 Dancing with the Stars
10:00 Castle
--- This works so why change it? More than likely, it stays two hours until its done. In between the end of the the fall DWTS and The Bachelor in January, I would just fill with specials and possibly encores, but I wouldn't schedule anything permanent.

Tuesdays
8:00 Dancing with the Stars Results
9:00 MR. SUNSHINE
9:30 Cougar Town
10:00 187
--- I've heard ABC may not expand its comedy but I think it would be wise to and separate the adult comedies from the family comedies. One of the most promising new shows, Matthew Perry's "Mr. Sunshine" could benefit from the DWTS lead-in and relocating "Cougar Town" will give the struggling show a more compatible companion. Putting the crime drama "187" at 10:00 might bring back memories of "NYPD Blue." After DWTS ends, I could see ABC placing "Romantically Challenged" and a new show (Wright vs. Wrong?) here

Wednesdays
8:00 The Middle
8:30 UNTITLED SHANA GOLDBERG MEEHAN PROJECT
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 IT TAKES A VILLAGE
10:00 NO ORDINARY FAMILY
--- "The Middle" is strong enough to anchor the night and sandwiching two new family comedies can help ABC grow its bold switch to comedy that happened this season. I know the THR report says that ABC is struggling with its comedy pilots but from the thread on here, and it looks like "Funny in Farsi" is dead so I've replaced it with the Shana Goldberg-Meehan Project, which is getting better buzz. "It Takes a Village" sounds completely compatible with "Modern Family." Finally, I think "No Ordinary Family" at 10 is an obvious choice for a time that ABC has struggled with. It's getting a lot of buzz and would be a good lead-out from the comedies.

Thursdays
8:00 Brothers and Sisters
9:00 Grey's Anatomy
10:00 Private Practice
--- This night is dying but I don't see ABC separating GA/PP yet. I could see Sondra Rhimes new show taking over for an extended time in the Spring while "PP" goes on hiatus however. I realize "Brothers & Sisters" moving to an 8pm time is bold but ABC needs to try something new after "Desperate Housewives" on Sunday before that lead-in doesn't matter anymore. B&S could do better than anything has done there this season

Fridays
8:00 Supernanny
9:00 Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution
10:00 20/20
--- This is based on if ABC decides to not be bold. If they are bold, I could see some combination of Happy Town/Brothers & Sisters/new shows but I highly doubt that. It's more likely they'll play it safe. "Supernanny" stands a better chance of coming back than "Wife Swap" and even with low ratings, I wouldn't be surprised to see "Jamie Oliver" come back

Saturdays
8:00 College Football
--- a bold prediction, I know

Sundays
7:00 America's Funniest Home Videos
8:00 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
9:00 Desperate Housewives
10:00 BODY OF EVIDENCE
--- This night needs some help but one piece at a time. The new drama "Body of Evidence" looks promising and could be compatible with the aging "DH." The 7-9 portion isn't amazing but it will probably stick around for at least another year

Midseason: The Bachelor, MATADORS, OFF THE MAP, Romantically Challenged, WHO GETS THE PARENTS, WRIGHT VS. WRONG
--- If "Mr. Sunshine" and "Cougar Town" hit, I would look for "Wright vs. Wrong" to find a home on Tuesdays perhaps with the adult-themed comedies. "The Bachelor" will obviously go to Mondays at 8 starting in January. If I had to guess, I'm thinking "Romantically Challenged" gets a renewal for Tuesdays possibly while "Happy Town" is DOA. As mentioned before, I see "Off the Map" going Thursdays at 10 while "Private Practice" takes a hiatus. Not sure about where "Matadors" or "Who Gets the Parents" would go

Cancelled/Ended: Better Off Ted, The Deep End, Find My Family, FlashForward, The Forgotten, Hank, Happy Town, Eastwick, Lost, Scrubs, Shark Tank (unless it's summers only), Ugly Betty, V, Wife Swap
--- The only ones on this list that have an outside chance of returning in my view are "V" and "Wife Swap" but I don't see either coming back. ABC needs to go back to square one with dramas and "Wife Swap" would be a filler at best

I will be shocked if HT gets over anything above a 1.9. I just don't see that working when better made, less complex shows, don't work for them. It's a dark murky mystery. Still baffled how this made the cut instead of INSIDE THE BOX or EMPIRE STATE or LIMELIGHT. Will be happy to be proven wrong, but I'm not expecting to be.

On paper I hear what you're dpoing with B&S on Thurs, but ABC needs a smash hit Thurs at 8p, not a show that's getting at most a 2.4 out of DH. I'd save B&S for midseason and put one of their strongest new pilots Thurs at 8, the other one going Sun at 9p, with DH sliding to 10p.\

DWTS needs to be 2 hours. I really hope they schedule it that way

Putting Brothers & Sisters at an 8pm timeslot is just asking for a cancellation. It is not a 'family hour' show. The entire tone of the show would need to change and therefore current fans would stop watching because it's not the show they have invested.

I realize that, but we have a large number of 8:00 shows among the major networks that are not "family hour" shows. "Brothers & Sisters" is falling apart on Sunday nights and needs to move elsewhere. I know a lot of people are thinking Tues or Weds at 10 but I think ABC should use those slots to launch new high profile shows. If ABC's not willing to program scripted shows on Fridays (and I'm think they'd be leery after many failed attempts), I don't see another place for it

the other place for it is midseason when a hole opens up. its likely only got 1 season left. they need to try to start as strong as possible in Fall.

no way will they or should they program scripted on Friday. nothings getting a 2 and scripted is too expensive and their scripted never works on Fri

My Fall Prediction for ABC:

Mondays

8:00pm Dancing with the Stars
10:00pm Castle

Tuesdays

8:00pm Dancing with the Stars: Results
9:00pm Cougar Town
9:30pm Mr. Sunshine
10:00pm 187

Wednesdays

8:00pm The Middle
8:30pm Funny in Farsi
9:00pm Modern Family
9:30pm It Takes a Village

Thursdays

8:00pm Off the Map
9:00pm Grey's Anatomy
10:00pm Private Practice

Fridays

8:00pm Wife Swap
9:00pm Supernanny
10:00pm 20/20

Saturdays

8:00pm College Football

Sundays

7:00pm America's Funniest Home Videos
8:00pm Happy Town

-- Most likely I will be wrong about Sundays but I think Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has run its course and Brothers and Sisters should be midseason or start early if Body of Evidence bombs.

Honestly, ABC's fall schedule is looking pretty predictable to me.

Sundays:
7:00 AFV
8:00 New Drama or V
9:00 Desperate Housewives
10:00 No Ordinary Family
(ABC can't waste post-DH on B&S for another season, especially with DH dwindling so rapidly. NOF sounds like the perfect family drama to launch after it, and the one most compatible with it. Another new drama will probably go to 8pm - the more new blood to the night, the better. If not, V will probably get this slot. I could see it working here.)

Mondays:
8:00 DWTS
10:00 Castle
(Perhaps a new comedy will air at 9:30 in November, perhaps moving to Tuesdays at 8:30 after DWTS ends. Besides that, Castle will stay put for at least another season.)

Tuesdays:
8:00 DWTS: Results
9:00 Cougar Town
9:30 Mr. Sunshine
10:00 187
(After DWTS ends, I'd expect to see a new sitcom launch at 8:30, probably getting a preview after DWTS for a for weeks on Mondays, with comedy repeats airing at 8:00)

Wednesdays:
8:00 The Middle
8:30 New Family Comedy
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 New Family Comedy
10:00 Brothers & Sisters
(Brothers & Sisters will either stay on Sundays or move to Wednesdays at 10pm. Since Parenthood will most likely stay on Tuesdays, I doubt ABC would want to put it head-to-head. 2 new comedies launching is also another good idea. The only way I can't see that happening is if ABC somehow brings over Old Christine, which would probably air Wednesdays at 8pm)

Thursdays:
8:00 Off the Map
9:00 Grey's Anatomy
10:00 Private Practice
(A Shonda Rhimes night seems most logical. Off the Map could finally be the new show to work at 8pm)

Fridays:
8:00 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
9:00 Shark Tank/Jamie Oliver/Supernanny/New Reality
10:00 20/20
(EM:HE is the perfect Friday candidate for ABC. It's ratings have been less than stellar this season, and is completely Friday bound it seems)

I think that's a good call on EM: HE moving to Friday... I may update my own prediction. If "Happy Town" does anything, that could be a candidate for Sunday. Also, why do you think "Cougar Town" goes at 9 followed by "Mr. Sunshine"? I think ABC would want to give its new show the better lead-in

It's obvious that ABC wants Cougar Town to work, but right now, it's lagging. It would be more compatible with DWTS than Mr. Sunshine, and it could benefit with the much larger lead-in, and probably grow from it in the demo. If anything, the ratings for both shows will probably be relatively similar, whether that be good or bad.

I'd like to see Romantically Challenged back as well. Perhaps in December when Dancing ends? Maybe at 8:30, with a new comedy or repeats at 8? It's hard to call, but I think ABC may give this one another shot.

Is that wishful thinking? haha

Because 5 of those 7 shows are already renewed

and in response to the prediction above, moving DH to 10 on Sundays is an interesting idea and a possibility. I have a hard time believing ABC goes to 6 comedies on Wednesdays because I've never seen comedies work in the 10pm hour

and what was the last drama youve seen work on ABC wed at 10
before millionaire when was the last game show in primetime to work
No ones tried comedies at 10 on network in years
that reasoning is not the reason not to try
