(3)Two times Dave joined the family in song were in Ricky the Drummer, when the whole family sang My Gal Sal. Another time was Ricks Riding Lessons when they were all singing Cindy around the camp fire.


My personal favorite of Dave singing is his solo act.." Ricky Nelson had 3 Dates EIEIO with a Betty Betty here and a Betty Betty there here a Betty there a Betty everywhere a Betty Betty. Ricky Nelson had 3 dates EIEIO"

For Q#4 Ozzie wants to get out of a painting chore Harriet's been after him to do.

Discussion Q: I think Harriet was the best actor on the show followed very closely by Rick. She had an excellent sense of timing and a wry humor. She really knew how to make a good wisecrack - maybe, perhaps, because she came off as very wise. I wished she had done some more acting outside of the show!

However, Ricky was no slouch either - he proved his mettle in Rio Bravo, imho. As well as on the show!

In answer to question # 5, "Hello Mary Lou" was written by Gene Pitney, who had many hits of his own in the 1960s.

I think all of the Nelsons were solid actors. Rick may have had the most potential, but once he started singing he was more interested in that than acting, plus all four of the Nelsons were permanently typecast by the show in a way that made more dramatic roles difficult to come by. As David once said, he essentially stopped acting because every role he was offered was to play "David Nelson" as he was known on the show.

Re Q#3 Joe Randolph arranges for Ozzie to be Santa.

[And he's darn lucky he got Ozzie, considering the way he asked ("and you may not even need a pillow for your stomach" or something along those lines). Poor Ozzie - it really is a busy Xmas for him! - with Harriet wanting him to string the lights and get the tree, Doc wanting Ozzie to play Scrooge, and Mrs. Brewster wanting him to sing bass for her caroling gp.) But ol Oz is a good sport - and although he may grumble abt it all - he really does seem to enjoy it. And extra round of ice cream for our man Oz! After all this activity he's burned off enough calories to earn it.]

I've found that throughout the series Ozzie (esp since he was the head writer) always had a self deprecating sense of humor for Ozzie the character. He always made references to his weight, needing to lose a few pounds, and had others take little jabs at him as well. I always see this and think WHAT is he talking about, you're being to hard on yourself Oz.

Yes, now that you mention it Ozzie did seem to portray himself this way: as a slighltly bumbling and maybe even a little to accomodating patriach and friend. BUT boy was he different in real life - controlling (not maybe as bad as some others) and sharp as a tack when it came to negotiating contracts - he was, after all, a lawyer for all intents and purposes, having swerved away from the law as a profession bec. his band & stage careet took off.

This is sooooo much fun Janine; each week I look forward to the new Qs!!! And going back and revisiting the eps! (Sadly, I may be getting as scatterbraned as ol Ozzie did at times, cause I knew the answer the #1, whic was the last ep of the series.)

Some of these questions really take some thought. Since the Game Room episode was finished in early 1966, I wonder if Ozzie knew then the show would not return for the 1966-67 season? If he had I wonder if a special, nostalgic episode would have been filmed?
