Thumbs down "The Love Boat" Theme Chosen As Worst Ever!

1) The Love Boat. Both The Love Boat and The Theme to The Love Boat smack of 70's cheese. The show provided a weekly vehicle for has-been (or never-were) stars to attempt to revive their careers in hackneyedly-written plots that attempted to be saucy cheese but wound up quite far from the intended fondue. The Theme to The Love Boat was an ode to getting it on while on vacation - because, as we all know, the only reason people spend thousands of dollars to live on a luxury boat and get it on. The vocals? Pure 70's crap rock - and soft crap rock, at that. The Love Boat and its theme may have been good for Carnival Cruise Lines' business, but The Love Boat Theme was bad for eardrums throughout the country.

Love, exciting and new
Come Aboard. We're expecting you.
Love, life's sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.
The Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.
Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
Yes LOVE! It's LOVE!
Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance.
Love won't hurt anymore
It's an open smile on a friendly shore.
It's LOVE! It's LOVE! It's LOVE!
It's the Love Boat-ah! It's the Love Boat-ah!

I actually like the theme and thought Jack Jones did a great job with it, There are plenty that are far worse than The Love Boat theme.

The Love Boat had one of the greatest theme songs of the 1970's. Theme songs of the 2000's are pure crap.

I liked the theme, too. Very catchy and upbeat; I used to sing along with it as a kid!

And you're right; today's themes (those few that even have them) are abysmal.

I think the Eight Is Enough theme is a zillion times worse than The Love Boat theme, but that's just my opinion.

Of course some sour puss has to pick on The Love Boat theme because if they picked a really bad theme song there would be no "controversy".

Most likely true. And just as disturbing, the reviewer takes a mean-spirited, gratuitous slap at 1970s music in general, which I believe was a very good decade for music overall...!

Like Hawaii Five-O, the theme from The Love Boat still receives radio airplay to this day (at least in part) and is an instantly recognizable past hit -- something that can't be said for too many themes at all...! I know I like it, and I always did!

A great, memorable theme. Sappy, yes, but very fitting for the show.

Guess they never saw All in the Family, or Sanford and Son. To me, those were bad.

I can see where All in the Family's theme could grate on someone, but that Sanford theme is fantastic. The AITF theme sequence is extremely memorable if nothing else.

To me, it's like nails on a chalk board. I agree about AITF. It was great to have them do the theme, but I don't think The Love Boat is worse.
