Holland Taylor says Charlie Sheen "Perfectly Capable of Leaving" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Two and a Half Men star Holland Taylor, who plays the mother of Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer's characters on the top-rated CBS sitcom, is coming to the defense of her TV son, Charlie Sheen, who has announced that he's off the show unless certain demands are met.

"He could leave and he's perfectly capable of leaving if things are not done that are appropriate for what his contribution is to this show," Holland told me at Saturday's TV Land Awards. "He's not just an actor playing a part; he is 'the brand'. If it is not appropriately handled, then sure, he will say 'bye bye'. It's not he doesn't have people wanting him to do other things."

Holland, who believes Charlie should head back to the big screen, says the idea of introducing a substitute male character, perhaps a relative, to fill in for absent Charlie on either a full or part time basis, is a possibility. "I don't imagine that's the way it will go, but they will try anything," said Holland, still hopeful that a deal can be worked out for another season. "I think we have to hear by the end of June. I'd personally be totally satisfied if this were the end. I do many other things during my time off."

But Holland says no special going away speeches or final farewell hugs were expressed on set earlier this month when the series finale was shot. "Frankly, I don't think anybody thinks anyone's going anywhere." Plus, the cast – especially Charlie – was in a hurry to tend to other matters in their lives. "Charlie was anxious to get to his knitting," she joked. "He has a lot of, ahem, knitting right now."

After the Hot Shots! movies, he had hits with Major League 2, Scary Movie 3, and Scary Movie 4. He's also going to be in the sequel to Wall Street, which is scheduled for release in September.
