Remember in the 80's and 90's when action movies were coming out in the summer like Another 48 Hrs, Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze, Die Hard 2 and 4, Lethal Weapon 2,3,4, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Tango And Cash, The Last Boy Scout, Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme's movies, XXX, Fast and The Furious? How come now there's only 4 action movies coming out this summer like The Losers, The Takers, The A Team, The Expendables? What happened? Now it seems action movies are coming straight to video instead of theatres.

You forgot Sex and the City 2- that movie's going to be non-stop action.

I guess the demand for it has diminished over the years. The main focus for making money are the comic-book movies now; which may count as "action movies".

Studios are not going to put a lot of effort and money into a film unless they assume it is going to be a guaranteed blockbuster. Which is now why a lot of action flicks are going the indie route.
