Production began in Ottawa Monday on an independent film starring Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and Christian Slater.

The $6.8 million thriller-action movie, called Sacrifice, is set in Toronto and Los Angeles but is being filmed entirely in Ottawa.

The film's producers say it's a sign that Ottawa is ready to handle big productions.

"There's a lot of real benefits to being in Ottawa," said Rob Menzies of Ottawa-based Zed Films, one of the movie's co-producers. "We're close to Toronto. We're close to Montreal so we can pull from the big centres.

"The crew that's here — … [and] there's a lot of crew — they're hungry for it whereas in Toronto and Montreal, they're a little jaded."

The film crew will dress the sets — the Byward Market and other locations around the city — to look like L.A. and Toronto.

Shooting will continue until late April.

Producers said that in the near future, they plan to film four other movies in Ottawa.

"It's really good for the economy," said Menzies. "We use local hotels. We use local restaurants. We're doing different locations across the city."

As I've said in another thread, Norbit and Daddy Day Camp certainly didn't help his career.

Ya'll get on my nerves with your comments about good actors who do straight to video movies. Cuba has done some bad movies like most actors. Name me one actor who hasn't done some bad movies. You can't do it. The bottom line is that Cuba and Christian are getting paid and that's all that matters. Ya'll act like these actors are doing movies for free. I bet Cuba got more money in his bank account than ya'll LOL. Plus the movie might be good that they're working on. Cuba has done some good straight to video movies like Wrong Turn At Tahoe and Linewatch. Shadowboxer was also a good one but it came to limited theatres. This is the 2nd time Cuba and Christian are working together. They did another straight to video movie called Lies And Illusions which was decent. There was 2 hot girls in that movie that were romantically involved with Christian. LOL@Cuba wearing makeup in the movie hahahahahahahahahaha.
