Hi Everyone,
i need help remembering a case that I have not seen in many years. A mentally challenged man is accused of the double murder of two young women, about 1970. The women were found beaten to death. However, the man claimed that he was bullied into confessing for this crime that he did not commit. As he remembered it, one of the interrogating police officers was very cruel to him, and had beaten him and even threatened to shoot him in the interrogation room. He came to UM because he was desperately trying to appeal his case. Does anyone remember more details about this case? What was the name of the man who was accused? Also, would anyone know if he is still incarcerated? thank you so much for any info you might have. Also, happy belated Easter!

Michael Lloyd Self. The cops were later found out to be bank robbers. Another man confessed to the crime. I'm 99.9% positive Self is innocent.

Thanks Wiseguy! Was the other man charged with the murders? Do you know if Self was ever released?

Self was never released at least not alive. He died in a Texas prison 2000 of heart failure while continuing to serve his life sentence.

I apparently can't edit my previous post at this time, but here's Self's 1992 Appeal:

Scroll down to post #44; it discusses some of the other homicides in the same period and other suspects (including Edward Bell).

THanks so much, Kadrmas and Soilentgreen. I am so sorry to hear of Michael Self's passing. What an injustice. I will click on the links to read more about self's appeals

Wow, Edward Bell too? THe same Edward Bell who murdered the man named Larry in 1978 (forgot his last name, but he was played by Matthew McCaughnehey...forgive the spelling). That blew me away
