Default The game show "You Don't Say!" - The ORIGINAL vs. the short-lived remake

Which did you like better? Both versions(the 1963-1969 NBC ORIGINAL version AND the short-lived 1975 ABC remake)were hosted by Tom Kennedy,(there was a short-lived syndicated version hosted by Jim Peck),but in my opinion, the NBC version was FAR better than the short-lived ABC remake.I never saw the syndicated version. The ABC remake featured four cekebs and 2 contestants, whereas the NBC ORIGINAL version featured,2 celebs and 2 contestants. The ABC short-lived version was forgettable, and except for host Tom Kennedy,a totally different show.

I saw Jim Peck's YDS in person when I was out in L.A. in 1978. It had four celebs and two contestants. John Harlan was the announcer. He told us we missed the last shows for that season of "Name That Tune" by one day. I was pissed. YDS was okay, not spectacular. Peck was OK as a host. I agree that Tom Kennedy could make a mediocre show interesting by his hosting skills. Not too many emcees could pull that off.

The original version of You Don't Say was definitely the best of the show's incarnation and put Tom Kennedy on the map as a top game show host. He also was a guest panelist a few times with his brother Jack Narz subbing for him as host. As for the 70s revival, it was hampered by a lack of affiliate clearances, due to it's 4 PM ET time slot and some stations, including the one in Minneapolis delayed it until the next day.

I agree with the above poster. The original was YDS! at its best. Back-to-back with the original "Match Game" on NBC's afternoon lineup.
